What do you use computers line-in port for?

Just a quick question...
I know the green port at the back of my computer is for Headphones/Speakers and more importantly a pink port for my microphone, so why is there also a blue port for line-in [which presumably also equals audio-in]? Is this useful when you have a headset which requires audio in and out?
Shane.

The line in port is for what you think it is. I have my DVD player linked up to my Laptop, so I can place my fav music DVD's onto CD.
Audio comes out of DVD player and into Laptop at the line in socket. Can also be used for headset with line in and out socket
If you don't ask, you don't find out!0 -
So why have a microphone socket as well? I suppose it's in case people have more than 1 audio in connection to make with their PC - like if you wanted to connect a microphone in addition to your DVD player...?0

Any audio recording. Such as recording vinyl or cassette to wave files for putting on CD. Or recording musical instruments via a mixer. However normal cheap PC soundcards aren't great and have noisy inputs so I use better quality soundcards/audio interfaces for recording.0

You have a mic input for mics and line inputs for line signals. These are very different types of signal.0
