HI gang
NOw IM fully signed up to the DFW mantra here as most of you know but my OH, even though he is fully supportive & on board, has some financial probs.
Just to put you in the picture
I met him last June, and he moved in with me in September. Couple of weeks out of work and then he started temping. So he gets paid weekly. Comes out with variable amounts from 200- 240 after tax PW
He gives me 100 a week inclusive toward the rent & bills ( not food)
He has a contract with O2, which he cant downgrade or get out of expires in October. ( 40per month) ( seemed like a good deal at the time, yes we should have shopped around etc)
We are getting the shopping down, so we are paying 20 a week between us,taking turns to pay for it
has to buy his travelcard weekly, not sure exactly how much but about 25 per week to get to work
He also has one of these criminal cahoot flexi loans at 3k. ( 8.2% we think) he takes the money back out of it as soon as its paid as he cant really be affording to pay it.
Takes packed lunches etc, doenst really buy anything.
Been trying to sell some of his records on ebay, not had much luck
Thing is, Ive been subbing him a little bit. Im not overly bothered, hes worried as i am that he wont be able to really pay me back. Im reckoning that he owes me nearly £300 at the mo, for me doing his shopping, me paying for things ( ie bought his travel card a few times etc). the rents always paid which is the important thing.
Weve been trying to get him accepted for a 0% card & cut it up
He has had the first bit ( contract to sign) but the card hasnt come - he isnt on the electoral roll. We were thinking, well at least some of the balance would be paid off with this, and maybe it could be done weekly ( like a tenner a week or sometihng)
Of course applying for perm jobs all over the place, hes not had any luck yet.
He cant really take a second job on at the mo, but we are doing bootsale etc this weekend
AM I missing anything here?

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

No hun, sounds like you got it covered. No shares from old employers hiding in a cupboard?
Think you'll just have to keep nudging him to pester employment agencies for permanent work. They do need a bit of reminding!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
He started a new one today, so if it goes permanent, I will be very pleased, as will he. Its hideous for him at the mo awww:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I always reccomend trying to work as a postie, if he's fit. From what I hear, £300 a week, but seems to be overtime on the go fairly often. Maybe someone can confirm!
Is he a 'morning' person???Debt free 4th April 2007.

Is there a reason why he's not on the electoral roll at your house? I just know from my experience this week that it's so much easier to get accounts if you're on the roll, expecially if you don't have very much other ID. Apart from that, best of luck in finding a permanent job, agencies are a nightmare!£2 Coin Savers Club £14 :j (joined 18/2/06)0

Regarding his travelcard: have you explored Oyster? If not, get on the TFL site and start looking at the savings they make!
As for selling the records...there's a shop in Greenwich that will buy them from him!! Unfortunately, I don't know what their rates are but it's worth investigating if you're in the area. Also, I can't tell you exactly where it is because I'm not a local - I went there a few months ago with my ex and can't quite remember. I think it's quite near the church. I also think that there's an organic cafe almost directly opposite. But if you go there, someone can point you in the right direction. My only warning though is that the shop will also exchange the records but don't be tempted cos it'll defeat the object! :rotfl:
One more thing...slightly off topic, but as I was driving home today, I noticed that Woolworths have slashed about £30 off their garden furniture. Robert Dyas also appears to have a Summer sale with lots of outdoorsy things!0 -
I agree about the travel card thing - I used to buy a monthly one (around £80 I think), now I spend £50/60 on Oyster pre-pay and really try and use just the buses (£1 before 9.30am and 80p after)

LOL @ Emmzi - Nope, not a morning person AT ALL lol I did suggst that but getting out of bed at half eights a struggle for him, and I wouldnt help, but great suggestion.
NO reason why hes not on the electoral roll, we only just twigged on last night.
He has oyster, but impossible to pay monthly due to lack of disaposable
Hes called barclaycard, theyve confirmed he is getting it, just they hadnt recieved his signed agreement, so they are sending another just in case its got lost in the post ( result )
cATSEYES - could you let me know which record shop it is? They are notorious for paying scratch all for records, but Im guessing if it doesnt go on car boot then gotta be worth a try?
Cheers gang xx:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

He could always be a 2 - 10pm indoor postie. No walking and you get a shift bonus :-)Debt free 4th April 2007.

i know your planning to do your car boot this weekend (me to, fingers crossed for the weather)....when ive done them before ive always had dealers asking for records, usually when im setting up..........this has happened everytime, so might be worth holding on to them and having them out ready, not sure how much they pay for them though0

Hey Lynz,
I'm afraid I don't have any advice for you and I kind of think - if you haven't thought of it then no-one has - as you always give such excellent advice and support on here!
I've only got the obvious advice - anything else to sell on eBay/Amazon apart from records (even something that he had discounted selling before), a second income like dog walking (something you could do together maybe?) or house sitting or does he have a talent like fixing computers or sewing (you never know!) that he could earn money from by advertising his services locally?
Sorry if this is no use...
scottishspendaholic xMBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
Bank of Scotland = £2,782.830
