Be sure you contact the council and ask for your 6 month exemption of council tax. If the house hasn't been repo'd in that time you will then be liable for 50% of the council tax. This will not go into your bankruptcy.
Congratulations on your BR and taking control. I presume you won't be leaving before your OR interview?

I had a call from my OR this morning from the Canterbruy office as Brighton is too busy! She was lovely and gave some good advice on the shortfall on the property (i.e. any shortfall will be included in the BR and DO NOT sign Northern Rock's liability letter). I will draft my own letter to Northern Rock stating why I am handing back the keys, why it has come to this and that any shortfall in the property will be included in my Bankruptcy-Please contact the OR in Canterbury.
I also told her I may be leavng the country which was also fine. So I will get my phone call interview with OR next week (30 mins she reckons). I have to say it has all gone wonderfully... am I dreaming? :undecided0 -
I was reading a thread asking about the time it takes to appear on registers, I'm on the Individual Insolvency Register already (24hrs)! Maybe because I filled in my forms online??0

There pretty quick to get you on the register whichever way you fill in the forms. Glad the call went well

So have had my Interview with the Offical Receiver. Lasted about an hour and went quite well. I spent the night before getting all my paperwork out and readily available for any questions.
I did lose my airplane ticket, yearly bus pass and computer but I think it is a small price to pay considering. I did question them taking my plane ticket. I thought it would be considered as re-settling expenses regardless of whether I moved out to a rented flat in England or relocated to another country. But there you go. It's an asset and they could take it. i also had to sign an agreement that they could contact HMRC and gain access to any tax rebates this year.
Opened another account with the Co-Op, no problems there.
Can anyone advise on the process to go through with the utility companies when you are bankrupt. Can I stop paying until I move out?
Next I have to tackle Northern Rock and the flat. I want to hand the keys back.0 -
You are liable for any debts you incur after the date of the bankruptcy.
Have you considered doing an assisted sale with northern rock?0 -
You are liable for any debts you incur after the date of the bankruptcy. What debts are you tallking about? The only debt will be any shortfall from a forced sale of the property. The OR advised any shortfall in the property would be covered in BR.0

you asked about utility companies and not paying them0
-
Ah, got ya. Not in debt there but thought I had seen something on here about not having to pay whilst still in the property. I obviously read it wrong.0

You are still responsible for all the bills in the prperty until it has been repo'd.
When you move out ring utoilities and give final readings and if possible take a picture of the meter reading with a camera that stamps the date on the picture. You inform the council when the property is empty and you get and exempion on the CT for 6 months after that you pay 50% until the property is repo'd.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
