Lidl not giving me refund

Hi has anyone every tried taking faulty goods worth over £10 back to lidl. I did this yesterday and was told by the manager that he would take the goods back but as the value of the item was over £10 he would not be able to refund me and that the goods would be sent to head office to be checked out. Then i will get a cheque through the post. Is this correct. If not what if anything can i do.

Had the same issue with lidl in Liverpool. They sent me a cheque within a week and all was fine. Think it is just there way of keeping track of returns.0
