  • All four of those look like the same company. So WePromiseTo are offering £70.

If you are looking to become a 'rate tart' and continually switch for cashback purposes, be careful with SP. Their cheapest tariffs all have cancellation fees that will wipe out your cashback - and the tariffs that don't have cancellation fees are very uncompetitive compared to those at the top of the switching sites. Cheapest SP no cancellation fee tariff would appear to Online (no standing charge). And in my Yorkshire region based on 'average' (20500/3300) consumption it's actually almost £180 per year more expensive than the cheapest (EDFs online 5 which amazingly doesn't have an exit fee and I believe there's £60 cashback available with this one!).

All I'm saying is don't be seduced by the cashback as invariably you are still going to be worse off. Or at least not worth the hassle for the small amount you will trouser when you switch away. But if you plan to stay with SP then you still pay more than going with the cheapest (even if they don't have cashback). HTH.

I hope fees aren't going to be norm. Not that I switch in a regular basis it just makes it more complicated switching as you then have to factor in fees. It's bad enough as it is, figuring whether to switch and trusting switching sites

They are definitely going to be the norm, I'm afraid. It would appear the Big 6s new strategy is to ensnare punters with cashback offers then tie them into long contracts. The really worrying new trend is these cancellation fees (in the past only the preserve of the fixed deals) are now becoming the norm on variable tariffs. This is extremely naughty IMO - it basically means the company can increase the tariff rate as much as they like and your only way out is to pay the cancellation fee. Scandalous.

PS Do your sums on your usage on the SP deal including cashback to hopefully realise cashback has, on the whole, become yet one more energy industry con. As this is no time for false modesty, I am a past master at it but I dipped out a few months ago. It just aint worth it anymore. Too fraught with complications...

    Thats great thanks.

Shame we have a toothless watchdog its bad enough as it is being deceived with inflated projections on savings if you switch then you have to fees on top

This is on top of prices still haven't fallen enough after the high prices of last year

I very stongly advise you NOT to go the WEPROMISETO route.
You will not get them to pay the £70 they're promising.
Search these forums for details of all the people who've been conned by Wepromiseto. (They got me to the tune of more than £70).

You have to use a great deal of power and gas to spend £36 per month more with a no-exit-fees Scottish Power monthly DD tariff than with EDF. Unless your electricity use is four times the national average don't listen to the Chicken-Lickens.

(Of course, the issue mentioned is one that has to be taken in with the calculations. But don't be too hysterical - remember to compare the online monthly direct debit no-cancellation-fees tariff, not the standard tariff.)

Thats not the case in South West region though, SP Online Energy tariff is very competitive whereas EDF dont offer their cheapest tariffs in the South West. ;)

I did say Yorkshire region. All I'm saying to the newbies (and iIknow you know what you are doing in this regard, BLF, so it wasn't directed at you) is take care and don't just sign up willy nilly to the one that has the highest cashback. Like ANY switch, proper research should be done. I can't imagine anyone (even KY) disagreeing with this advice (but in the case of KY I've certainly been surprised in the past, lol).
