Getting into London

Hi there,
Need some advice - thanks!
Just got a job in central London and have been seeking accomodation - but have found it difficult. However, I have the chance of taking on a very cheap flat on Junction 5 M4 (Colnbrook), unfortunately, public transport can only get me to the Lambeth area of London in an hour and half or more not to mention the considerable daily cost.
I was wondering whether there was an option for me that I may not have considered? Perhaps someone could give me some helpful hints or tips to make the commute from Colnbrook easier??
Thanks in adavance

I think this is going to be one of those times when you can have quick or cheap(relatively!!) but not both.
The train from Slough only takes about 20 minutes, although you will then need to get a tube to Lambeth. And it won't be cheap at peak time.
Hows this for an alternative? Buy a moped, ride 6 miles a day to Heathrow Terminal 5, where Motorbike parking is free. Then it's just over an hour on the tube into central London. This will still cost £47 a week plus the moped running costs though....0 -
What options HAVE you considered? You don't say. Can you drive part of the way? Staines, Feltham, West Drayton, somewhere like that?
Staines to Waterloo (virtually in Lambeth) takes a little over half an hour.0 -
Slough to Paddington is only 20 minutes, then you're on the circle line etc.0

I hate to think how much that would cost at peak times though (assuming the job is 9-5 type hours)0 -
Thanks for the reply guys,
This is what I have considered:
From Colnbrook Bus to Slough train station --> Train to Paddington --> Tube to Vauxhall --> 15/20 min walk to work
From Colnbrook bus to Terminal 5 --> Tube to Green Park --> Tube to Vauxhall --> 15/20 min walk to work
Drive to London via M4/A4 and park in a rented car park space (£45 pw)
All the above seem to work out at an hour and half give or take a few mins.
I believe the only alternative left is a partial car drive into London and Tube to Vauxhall but I am not sure about where to park and pick the tube station.
Thanks for the suggestions and help!0 -

£45 a week for what? Is that just for the car park space? You'll have running costs on top of that, and possibly congestion charge, depending exactly where your parking space is...... (Vauxhall is right on the boundary of the congestion zone)0 -

£45 for parking in someones house - they have free space

Yeah, that is quite common. You need to check with them which road the space is on, because if it is inside the congestion zone, it'll cost ya another 40 a week in congestion fees.0 -
There is one here on Parkopedia for just under 30 a week, just outside the congestion zone http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/uk/vauxhall_station/0

Am I right you live in Colnbrook but work in Vauxhall
What are you looking to spend on rent,. there has to be a better way than this? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
