Paypal payments from bank account query...

Hi can anyone help me please..am confused after being a long term ebayer and always using paypal ive just incurred £35 in fees for my bank account:confused:

I paid for an item on 27th Aug and with no funds in paypal(very rarely sell anything) as usual the money was to come from my bank account which is never any prob..more than enough funds etc..and usually they hold the money straight away so my actual balance and available balance usually pretty much shows the paypal deduction straight away..i had all my direct debits come out on 1st sept which left things a bit dire til today and ive had a letter from the bank saying they are charging me fees for an unpaid payment stating the paypal payment..

Has something gone amiss..paypal account is showing it as paid and i had the money there for a few days after as well..so not sure now if the seller has actually been paid and what to do..it was only £6 but dont want to get into any trouble either..

any advice would be great..thanks...

  • Have a look at your account - did it get paid immediately or did it bounce first time, could be that it bounced and was requested again and then paid.

Do you have online access? If not I would suggest you request a mini statement at a cashpoint, or wait for your statement which should show any problems.

Don't forget about the bank charges reclaiming section of this site.

Paypal is a Direct debit It can take almost 5 days to appear on your account (its not like paying directly with a card). So what i guess happened is you assumed the deduction had been made from your account. It had not then when the direct debit was due to come out there wasn't enough money to cover it therefore you incurred charges with your bank

    Hi
    Thanks for helping..
Im just a bit confused with it as never had any probs before..it was showing as pending on my account from 27th.i use online banking and the £6 diff was showing on my balance and available balance iykwim..

next question is what happens to the seller..i got the item in the post last week..does that mean they will take the amount back off him now??its still showing him as paid on my paypal account so really not sure what to do now.
  • It works as a "Direct Debit" It pays the seller right away and appears to them as a "Instant Bank Transfer" If the "Direct Debit" bounces from your bank Paypal will just deduct the money from your Paypal account and you will be unable to use your Paypal account until you have paid the funds into it you own them. It won't affect the seller you have bought the item from at all.

As for the bank charges, you'll need to sort that out with the bank...

I personally don't like this option on Paypal whilst I have it set up I always make sure I pay with my Debit Card because I got stung a few times in the beginning with bank charges (which I claimed back) because I forgot about them!
