Thinking of selling clothes on ebay - Views?

Hi,
I heard from a colleague at work that someone she knows buys clothes in TK Maxx etc when they are reduced and then sells them on ebay and she now makes about 500 pounds a week. I could do with the extra cash and I know that I would not make this straight away. I was just wondering if anyone does this or if it is a good route to go down.
Thoughts/views please. Thanks

I have only sold some of my old or unworn clothes on Ebay and I find it hit and miss. Maybe your friend gets to know what does and doesn't sell.
Bear in mind that buying clothes to sell at a profit is a business so the profit is taxable.
Good luck if you decide to give it a go.Mortgage, draw down Sept 2014: £222,000

Hi,
I have only sold a few my own unwanted (outgrown ) clothes on ebay. However you could browse the clothing on ebay, and watch a few choice items to see what they actually make. Then if you see a bit of profit in it go for it.
I think to make £500 a week, they must be shifting a lot of stuff.Jane 21120 -
I'm always suspicious of these kinds of claims – 'I made £500 on eBay' etc.
I heard someone make a similar claim recently saying they were selling loads of things, and they way they sold it, it sounded like it was pure profit. But when I grilled them, it turned out that they turned over about £500 on eBay in total sales. But when you took out the original purchase price of the goods and all of the fees etc, they were clearing less than £100 profit.0 -
i wos thinkin of this.. searched some branded t shirts online similar to wot i wos thinkin of selling.. er.. 99p wit minutes left.. or a few quid on it.. not worth it i thot..0

Perhaps 500 a week a few years ago, when everything sold better on ebay!
Now it is much harder to make a profit cause everyone needs extra cash and are all buying from the same suppliers and selling the same stock.
Best thing to do is try and find a market you know alot about and go from there, otherwise someone will always be able to undercut you.
I buy a few bits from the 99p/£1 shop a week and treble the prices making a small profit, not enough to live on though!
A few years ago clothes sold really well, but people are really holding on to thier cash now and its hard to stay in profit with the ebay/paypal charges.
Do it as a sideline and see how it goes before you buy loads of stock!!!0 -
this is a bit naughty but you could buy something from tk maxx, list it on ebay. if it doesn't sell take it back to tk maxx!
i think making money used to be a lot easier years ago but people have been doing this kind of thing for years0 -
Yes it definately is a good route but only really if they are designer apparel as you want to be making pounds from a sale rather than pennies!
I did come across designer sunglasses as a good idea. Many from TK MAXX sell for around £7 and are RRP £80. I researched some on eBay and a few sold well while the rest didn't do so good. You'll have to research it.
The best thing I would advise to sell on eBay is probably smaller electronics such as Mobiles, MP3 Players, Cameras etc. In most cases you can buy it off eBay and sell it again on eBay. You'd just have to be an avid bidder and pick the right (cheapest) listings then make sure when you list it yourself you have a professional looking description - that really does make a lot of difference.
This was the type of thing I used to do for a while to raise some Capital for my business. It's hard work but you could make a lot of money from it!0 -

Hi - thanks for all your responses so far. I am in still in two minds as to whether to go ahead and do this. I would like to hear from anyone who actually does this. Thanks0
