Can we set up a 'Beat My Quote' thread for new cars similar to the one over in the travel forums for holidays?

Reason being I am a sales exec at a main Ford dealer and would like to be able to help people get a good deal on new Fords and I am sure there must be sales people on here from other brands able to do a similar thing.

Umm. You're not meant to tout for business on here.

so how does the travel one work then if that's not touting for business?

If you find a cheaper holiday for someone then that's out of the goodness of your own heart. You stand to benefit financially from selling a new car.

no the holiday one is travel agents beating quotes from other travel agents to win the business of the poster asking for a holiday! I know this as i have booked a holiday through one of the agents on the board.

The travel agents then make commission on the holiday / flights booked.

As long as people are saving money in finding a cheaper car or holiday or whatever there surely should be no problem saying 'i can beat that deal'?

I think those people have registered with the admin/mods to that effect and they have the disclaimer in their signature. Maybe that's something you should do?

do you know who is best to contact?

I was not suggesting posting about deals in this thread purely saying a beat my quote thread should be set up.

I think that its a good idea. If people can end up saving money on their Car then does it really matter if someone get s a bit more business out of it?
  • We got full permission from MSE in May 2006 to answer posts here to help people on car issues, under our own name.
We went about it all the right way (as opposed to those who are in the trade but don't declare it) and have helped hundreds over the past 3.5 yrs to avoid pricing pitfalls & get a better price from their dealers - but we were contacted by MSE admin' last week to ask why we were posting?! (so we reminded the person who emailed us from MSE that it was actually themselves personally who'd handed us clear permission in 2006 and we sent them their original emails to us to prove it! ..they have now acknowledged that yes, they did pass that permission, but ..

..have now told us their permission was a 'mistake' in 2006 and can now only answer posts that contain a query about us specificallly, "not about general car buying in general".
So we that makes it pretty hard to help anyone.
With 4 professional car buyers (one of whom is 4th generation in the trade, has managed car buying of around 30,000 cars a year for a leasing company & has worked for 2 car mfrs!), with over 32 yrs combined experience and a full qualified mechanic and aftersales specialist sitting here with 19 yrs in the trade, we thought we could help add some humble and meagre value to the forum threads.
As a forum where people want knowledge on how to avoid sales traps and pricing mysteries, if the only people allowed to answer are those who don't always have the factually correct answers (i.e,.outside of the trade - who can genuinely help and know the background to how an offer is constructed on a particular car price), then often poor information sometimes given on threads cannot ever be corrected by anyone who actually knows the answer because they work in the industry concerned.

We started a thread 2 wks ago reminding people that if they were about to take out personal contract hire anywhere, & if they are on a tight budget, they need to build in the VAT change to their monthly payments from January - as many folk haven't factored that in. We didn't expect any responses as it was just a helpful tip - but that sort of pro-active general cost advice is not allowed, apparently.

I do have to question this from a common sense perspective - for a forum where people can ask about how to get the best price from a dealer, how to avoid feeling 'ripped off' on a car or anything motor related... if the people who know and can help with knowledge from 'behind the scenes' cannot actually post an answer?!
We're not owned by any manufacturer or motor group, we are totally independent, so have no axe to grind or particular brand to push..but we have enormous knowledge on 15-20 brands of cars mechanically and price-wise - what a waste of that knowledge.
Anyway, posting this now breaches our new rule..so we'll be off...just trying to save you a lot of heartache.
I think MSE just need to decide what credible help they want on their forums to ensure factually correct advice from the public and trade experts, vet the parties proposed, set a service agreement up and moderate it. It's not hard.
    Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of DealDrivers. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"
