Just had a bloke from hydro electric or whatever it is called nowadays in Scotland.

I am not with said company for my gas and electricity (is it electric or electricity?)

I got the usual waffle about how I am paying too much for my fuel and how he could make me pay less etc. etc. etc.

I asked him how much I would pay for 4,000Kwh of electricity and 18,000Kwh of gas, I never got an answer. I just got statements from him that my direct debit would be cheaper.

There are more than 30 houses where I stay and how many do you think have left HE to go elswhere?

2. me and 1 neighbour. That's it.

He told me that, and I saw his list, 30 houses on a page, and him telling me that all the neighbours were paying less for their gas and electric than me and they were right and I was wrong as I was in the minority.

He eventually went away still saying that I would spend less but it was my loss. I stood at the door watching him and he never went to another door in the whole street until he went round the corner.

Stan, I've calmed down now. And I never swore at him:T

  • I recently changed from Hydro to another company and am expecting a knock on the door in the near future. One of their tactics is to send someone round after you've left them to try to get you to see the error of your ways. Looking forward to it as if they come out with the usual bull and start getting pushy I'll be having the guys job.

BG were the biggest culprits for relying on their customer's inertia. Millions stayed on their standard gas tariff - to be fair for a while BG were not allowed to reduce gas prices - which was totally uncompetitive.

Whilst BG's standard tariff is now more in line with the standard tariff of other companies, there are still lots of cheaper tariffs - including with BG.

Those who understand gas/electricity prices are not likely to be caught out. However the sales staff of every company state, or implies, they have the cheapest tariff, so it is easy for people to become confused; and just stay with their current(sorry) company.
