Selling Books on ebay?

I have a first Edition Harry Potter Hardback Book.
Is it worth me selling it?
Is it worth anything?
Should I sell on Ebay or Amazon?

Many Thanks

Not likely to be worth much I'm afraid. Amazon would probably be better and you'll likely make more money - do a search on both, making sure it is the same cover as yours too.

Pretty much all the harry potter books are first edition, they were only released a couple of years ago so I don't think it will be very collectable because so many people have it.

What you should do is check out the 'completed listings' on ebay and see what kind of prices they are going for.

To do that just type in something like 'harry potter philosophers stone first edition' into the search box and click search, then scroll down and on the left hand side there will be a tick box for completed listings, click on that, then it will show you all the books that have ended recently and what price they went for.

Other than that, check out amazons marketplace, you might be able to sell on there, but again, fiction doesn't sell very well so you might not get much for it.

The problem with the Harry Potter books is that one of those often repeated TV auction/car boot sale programmes over valued one once and they keep repeating the episode.

They said that a mint copy of the first HP book in its original cover was worth hundreds as there were very few printed, whereas in fact as has already been said it was not really a small print run at all. The book in the programme remained unsold even at less than £50, but every now and then the idea that there are very few true 1st editions is mentioned on the TV.

Wherever you decide to try and sell it make sure you make it available for the US market as they will often pay extra for a UK edition if they want to collect the lot, they tend to pay top dollar for them.

I'd say the value would very much depend on WHICH Harry Potter book you have ;-)

There are also some odd exceptions... some runs which had certain printing errors in them have a rarity value.

I know a geek who knows these things :)
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

soolin right in her comments...most HP 1st editions will fetch about £25-£45 .

However, katchambers is WAYYYYYYYYY off the mark if she thinks pretty much all HP books are 1st editions...... how many prints do you think they've doen kat??? LOL! They're fairly popular you know ;-)
