Abbey Student OD Problem

Sorry new member
basically im a 19 year old student about to start 3rd year of university. I have a student account with the abbey with which i had a £500 overdraft. I also have 600 or more going into my account every month but usually end up back in it by the end of the month. Was planning on paying it off at the end of the month when my first SAAS payment goes in.
Well anyway, go to the cashling the 3 days ago and im -£300 with £200 available. Go today and im -£300 with -£300 available. Think that isnt right and go into the branch to find out whats happened.
This would be a good time to add in that the reason im constantly in the overdraft is that i lived in a rented flat from july 2008 till june 2009 and although i was skint most of the time all bills where paid on time during this period except a DD for £8.
When i moved back at the end of june 2009 i went into my local abbey branch around the 18th of july and changed my address back to my parents house as thats where i live now.
So im in the branch to find out where my overdrafts went and she asks me alot of questions about when i took out the student account (nov2008) and if id had any problems in the past etc, which i havent.
So anyway, she gets what i assume is the manager to phone up and find out why, and they tell me ive failed their credit check for an overdraft and its been taken away, and that i should have been notified. So i tell them that i moved and changed address etc and they check their system and it still says my other address. They also couldnt tell me why ive failed a credit check and the only thing they could do to help was to give me the number for debt management so i could pay off what i owe them over a long period of time, they also informed me that overdraft charges will keep getting added until its paid off.
Is this right and is their anything i can do?
Ive been left with no money till the end of the month, and will need to pay back alot more than £300 with the charges they will add on, i also have DD due to come off and no way to get >£300 into the account to allow these to be paid, and wasnt notified because they where imcompetent and didnt change the address on the system, even though i filled out the paperwork standing infront of them.
Sorry for the essay but im slightly panicked by it all.
I should also probably add that i have contacted trading standards who told me they cant deal with money related problems and to write a letter to the ombundsman(spelling?) and to abbeys head office and give them 10 days to reply and NOT to settle with debt management. Problem being that if i leave it 10 days, ill still have no money, ill have racked up 10 days of unauth'd overdraft charges and they could decide abbey is in the right and ill still get nothing.

You won't get anywhere with the obsumdemsdjkbadasjdsad, banks have a right to take away overdrafts away without warning and for no reason.
Best bet is to find another bank and get an overdraft with them and transfer the money. Then close the Abbey account.0 -

So this would be the better option than to take the debt management, as the clerk said i could get debt management to put the amount to £500, the £300 + the £200 i should have...
And also, will i pass a credit check for a new account with an overdraft if ive already failed the abbeys? ( I cant get access to my credit report as i only have a debit card and you need a credit card to use experian, and theyv left me no money to use a site which you dont get a free trial )0 -
Experian allows you to use your visa debit card not just a credit card. I think that you should check equifax and experian credit file before you apply for another account.0

Something similar has happend to me..im also 19 and going into 2nd year of university and have a £1000 interest free overdraft. I suddenly had my overdraft removed without warning on wednesday!
The people on the phone told me there was an error and it had happend to alot of students, the bank was telling me that they had no idea why student overdrafts were not being renewed and someone else was saying i should have received a letter which i had not!
Although i had been using my overdraft for most of the summer i had been earning from 2 summer jobs and had placed some substantial sums of money into the account on a regular basis.
The timing of the overdraft removal left me stranded in wales with no money at all and i was only able to get home with the help of the friend from university whose parents had to give me food and money!
I think its unfair that they did not let me know that this was going to happen and the reasons why?
I have now appealed with the bank and I am waiting for a reply! The man said there is a 70% chance il get my overdraft back and if not il just have to pay off the rest of the money i owe them and open another account else where!0 -

This has happened to my daughter who is in her second year, after several calls she got someone with a bit of sense and it should be getting sorted out, did you know the bank is breaking their ontract with you as they are supposed to give you a thirty day notice. If my daughters is not sorted out you hgoave got to through their complaint procedures, it doesn't help when you do thave any money no fault of your own and totally puts you in deep dispair and confusion, you are in the hands of the bank, i would try and get it sorted close the account and change to a better bank, there are plenty out there0

Most will give 30 days notice to close an account.0 -
update:
after much confusion on both collections, the branch and my part its on its way to possibly being sorted.
Collections have told me this is a problem alot of students are getting just now and to appeal to the underwriters (done on saturday)
The branch seemed confused and !!!!ed off that they had to put in an appeal as according to them "theres nothing they can really do".
Just sick of it all to be honest, it took me 3 days to get a hold of someone who knew what theyr talking about, and im still waiting to hear back about the appeal.
Glad i've got mates i can borrow off, but even their getting sick of me asking for money.
Think i may open an RBS account and leave the abbey once all this is dealt with.0
