Hi, as a student living in london a flat (4bed) wouldnt the cheapest gas & electricity would be through pay as you go energy like the one from British Gas?

Well, there would be 4 of us living together and not all of us would be staying there 7 days a week so PAYG seems the cheapest right? Are there any other PAYG offers i should be aware of, or something that would best suit our needs?

also most of the day we would be outside, and weekends most of us won't even be there. I'm not sure about this pay as you go procedure and all this meter stuff, so could someone fill me in with this!

Depends how much you trust the rest folk living in the house to pay their share of any DD payment. If you have a pre payment meter which works off a card, loaded with credit. You will not received any discount which you get on other payment options. I have an Eon online account and my total discount is 16.1% which obviously will not be applicable to pre payment meters. Plus unit cost of energy will be higher, although the government has promised action on this, not sure how far they have taken this yet.

So as a rule of thumb, pre payment meter are the most expensive option, with online accounts being the cheapest.

The tariffs on Pre-pay meters(PAYG) have reduced recently so they are in line with the standard tariffs for most companies.

However they are not as cheap as the on-line tariffs and making the payments in advance can be a hassle.

However given the endless arguments about paying the bills in student households, it may be a better option; as long as there is a kitty for payment.

If you are already with BG and both meters were to be Prepayment you can get this cheaper by using the BG website for PAYGE Click. You would also still get the dual fuel discount. Obviously check with the comparison sites to make sure this is best for you.
