In the newspaper article I really like the 1930s shoes

Clothes were often better quality then, people generally bought less, kept them for longer and looked after them better too. They also often made their own, which I wish I could do .Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Do you mean flapper style? tres chic  (although I feel that should glasses of something sophisticated rather than what looks like beer)
I wish I could make my own clothes - there seems to be a huge skills gap between myself and my motherbut I don't feel an affinity to any particular era (ok maybe 80s but best not to go there :rotfl:)

sorry, I didnt know it was a repeat else I wouldnt have bothered, but I havent seen it before0

Whoops...I've just been distracted here - think I might watch this programme....
My personal "leetle fantasy" is of being an Elizabethan housewife - chatelaine of the Manor style - oh...bring on the stillroom and the herb garden. I definitely fancy brewing up all my own herbal medicines and growing the herbs in the first place and having a go at cooking Elizabethan-style.....well...one can dream....at intervals...and then back to the 21st Century..oh well....
Its harmless escapism - and one can learn some useful lessons from previous eras...and why not?0 -

I really enjoyed the programme so thanks for posting the reminder. I had a look online for any more information about the women and I found blog that seems to be based around the concept here :

There's an interview with Joanne who featured on the programme and she definitely wasn't happy with how her life was portrayed. I have to say I felt it wasn't very informative, mostly just subtle barbs about how all these people must be a bit bonkers to live that lifestyle. I've watched some other episodes from the series which were about raw foodists, bull fighters and the sport of polo and they were treated similarly. All these views may be fairly different from the norm but I'm not sure the tv producers should make programmes which mock them.0 -
i enjoyed it, makes a nice change from all the other programmes. felt sorry for the 1940s girl, it was as if she was looking for the perfect family life that she didnt have because her parents got divorced.
the other wives seemed nice enough. wonder how the singer is faring now since her singing was going into fulltime work on that programme, would be interesting to see if shes still being a time warp wife.
interesting programme all round and i have respect for them for living up to their ideals.0
