  • Best of luck for the pay increase! That extra cash is always fantastic, especially if you have the discipline to not change how you are living and put it all onto moving into debt free land that much sooner...

  • hello seriouslyseekingtosave

i caught up on your thread the other day, it's great! and you're doing really well. We're having to hold back a little on the OP's at the moment as i'm starting maternity leave in a few weeks and don't want to end up short but i'm aiming to have a bit of a declutter of the loft of baby things from first time round so i may be able to make a little bit that i can hide away ready to make an extra payment when i go back to work. We have a regular OP set up monthly anyway so at least I know that that is always getting paid. I just want it done quicker...i've seen a lovely 'forever home' or two on rightmove...if only they wait about 10 yrs for us to buy from them!!!
    Debts all paid!!!:j
  • well all i've really managed today is to think about things! lol and DH has decided that the bonus 'might' be 'quite good'!? so not very far really. I have updated my signature a bit though and made me realise how much we managed to achieve between Aug 09 and 10! we made a conscious decision to make all the overpayments to the secured loan which was added to the mortgage and we did make a few extra overpayments over and above the regular monthly one that we've set up on our account but i can't quite believe how quickly it came down in the space of a year. I'm still looking at the letterbox everyday for the up to date statement but i don't really expect it until the very end of the month or maybe even first week of Feb.

Hopefully i'll get some energy in me to get some stuff listed on ebay tomorrow and sunday though, but with a kids fancy dress party and a trip to the swimming pool as well as visiting friends i might be pushing my luck!

  • Like others, I've only just caught up with your thread. It's great to have an "older" thread of several years old to show how over time you can make a difference - very inspiring to people who are new 2011 MFW's! Sounds like you're certainly moving in the right direction and as other people have said I wish you well in 2011 in getting your debts (mortgage and CC) down to even lower rates.
    Well done so far
Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved
September 2016 - Back into clearing a mortgage - Was due to be paid off in 32 years in March 2047 -

Predicted mortgage clearing 03/2047 - now looking at 02/2045

Aims: 1) To pay off mortgage within 20 years - 2037
  • Thanks for keeping up with this thread 'needtopay'.
It's inspirational for us who are just starting on the MFW road.
Sounds like you had a lot to deal with - so well done with keeping up with the OPs as well as dealing with the other hassles.
  • Thanks for your comments everyone. I've found it really useful to look back over the first posts and see what we have actually achieved. I find it really useful to read other peoples diaries but sometimes it can be frustrating when you read those ones from people who either earn a lot more or for whatever reason pay off huge amounts each month. While i'm always happy for them i do sometimes read them and think 'well i'll never be able to do that!'

this morning i have listed a ton of baby clothes on ebay in bundles although not sure where i went wrong but some listings have allowed more than 1 photo for a free auction listing while others just let me put one picture on so i ended up putting Buy it Now prices on these too. Maybe the baby brain didn't help but i'd just like to get them sold for something and at least we'll have a bit more space for the new things!

  • mmm...ebay isn't going so well so far hardly anyone has even looked at the items i've listed, but if they don't sell they're going to a charity shop as we really need the space. We know what we're having but haven't told friends or family so can't even offer the stuff we have to them as then it'll be fairly obvious that we know! i feel a complete fraud as have spent the last 9 weeks telling people that of course we're not finding out at the scan, if you can't wait til your baby is born for a surprise then what patience can you have with anything else in life hahahaha if only they all knew what we do!

only a few more weeks left at work so i think i'll just have to get my head down and get on with it this week. I have so much to sort out before i go, i really don't want to leave a mess for others to sort out.

hopefully i'll be able to make some progress with money making schemes this week too, just need to find some energy from somewhere!!!

  • as it stands only around £15 from ebay, i'm a bit disappointed as i know people have got themselves a great bargain as some of the stuff was almost brand new! nevermind, it's a bit of a declutter with a few pennies made in the process which can be put aside as part of the next big overpayment. I always get frustrated at the middle of the month as after the main payments have gone out i'm just sitting waiting to see what i left at the end of the month and deciding whether to make an extra overpayment or just to leave it to one side as part of a bigger payment in a few months time.

i have a little bit to pay off my credit card 0% this month, so i think any leftover cash will be put aside to pay that when it's needed and that way at least from then onwards any extra can go towards the mortgage

  • does anyone know when Northern Rock start sending out their statements, I know i have one due in January. I'm just not sure when to expect it and i'm getting impatient.

Although I've managed to save quite a bit recently, I have a nasty feeling most of it and maybe more is about to go on getting cars fixed:mad:...but nevermind, at least we actually have the money this time rather than using credit cards and paying for it (or not) later as we used to.

i could just do with a new statement to give me some numbers to look at and keep up my motivation. I know what my plans are for the future but until we pay a fair amount off this mortgage it isn't going to happen which is quite a frightening thought sometimes:(

i think i'll have a read through some of the other posts to see where i can really save some cash, or earn some more!

  • I take it you mean mortgage statements and not current account statements. I think they are sent every 4 months depending on the anniversary your mortgage completed.

If you are due one in January mine used to come at the end of the month but think it probably depends on the volume they have to dispatch.
