third time lucky trying to post a reply!
firstly... thank you for you hugs and comments!
well the DVLA are still winding me up but that have sent me a cheque for half of the money they owe me! they are now saying that even though i applied for the refund in 1st week of August they can only refund the money from the date in mid October when they received the tax disc! why oh why did they bother asking for the Crime Ref No. my complaint letter is on it's way right now!!!
at least i've done better than a friend...her car was stolen and the DVLA refunded the money to the thief who had the cheek to return it! they told her it would cost her £20 to find out who had claimed the cash.
My new car fault is covered under the warranty too so that has saved a bill of almost £1000 which is a huge relief...it's also given me a kick to clear as much of the mortgage as quickly as possible so that we won't be worried (well not as much!) by such bills in the future.
Hopefully we'll be able to overpay even more money than usual this month as we've really started to plan meals and have managed to get free ASDA delivery for the past 2 weeks. we would normally have spent about £80-£90 a week at the shop but have managed a spend of only £63 and £53 including a £20 christmas pressie. I also won 50p on the bingo scratchcards today and got a 200 point lightspeed survey too!
i'm going to try and get my signature sorted and update it each time we get a mortgage statement throughDebts all paid!!!:j0 -
well... i feel like i've made a little bit of progress this week. The DVLA Enforcement Office have decided not to take me to Court and I no longer have to pay them anything and the Complaints Manager at Swansea is looking into my complaint. I've tried really hard to stick to my budget this month although only have £50 to last me until payday so am having a fairly boring weekend. I spent too much on applying for the Great North Run for next year, but although go the 3 year membership so ended up having to pay out £84!!! way too much i know, but i really enjoy the run, i just don't want to have to go through applying for charity places again. I get a FREE tshirt though !
I was also told about a clothing collection company that pay for your old clothes, bedsheets etc...although they pay by weight so my 2 bin liners gave me a grand total of £4.80. Now I really shouldn't complain as i would have just taken it to the charity shop but I still couldn't help but feel cheated.
Christmas shopping is coming in under budget so far and i'm near to payouts on a couple of survey sites which will be an bonus.
I'm looking forward to the next mortgage payment showing on the balance!Debts all paid!!!:j0 -
well, still waiting on the DVLA...but still feeling good about how our money has gone inthe run up to Christmas. Although we haven't managed to pay any extra on top of the set overpayment as we've had to pay out to get the washer, vacuum cleaner, boiler and car brakes fixed! However, at least we actually had the £285 there to pay it instead of having to dip into the overdraft. Well we have gone £3 over this month but i'm actually really happy with that as we shouldn't have anything more to spend really.
I feel like we can go into the New Year on a good start, fingers crossed we'll managed to pay off even more than we have been already. I am very sad but actually like to get the mortgage statement now!Debts all paid!!!:j0 -
I've just found this post i started ages ago and it's strange to see the change over the past year. 2009 wasn't so great for us was it!
i'm not really sure that things have changed that much although compared to the figures we had in September 09 "secured loan is £115,700 and the unsecured loan is £11,500" our most recent statement to end August 2010 showed secured loan at £105,750 and unsecured loan at £11,200 which doesn't look to bad really. just need to keep up the momentum, we've also managed to get the house double glazed and mostly decorated so it's much more cosy now although the house prices just seem to be dropping further. In fact at about the rate they were increasing when we bought the place!:o
i'm also getting ready to start maternity leave again so where we will save on some costs, travelling for work etc we're going to have extra spending elsewhere that needs to be kept a hold of. It is great though to be in a position to pay extra to the mortgage, we're still making regular overpayments and the odd additional payment on top of these where we can. I've also worked out that in 3 1/2 yrs the car will be paid and so will my student loan which will give us an extra £200 a month to pay towards something. It seems like a long time away but no doubt it'll fly around.
i'll try and keep this updated a bit more often than once a year from now on and will keep hanging around to catch any good ideas. Keep up the good work everyone

Had a day of dreaming if we could pay this that and the other and we'd pay it in no time if we didn't actually have to eat or do anything with our lives! but realistically with my maternity leave looming it doesn't seem so sensible to tie up any extra money i may be able to save over the next couple of months.
I did have about £500 on a credit card which has been transferred to a 0% card and i also have about £250 in premium bonds which were bought for me as a gift, in the few years i've had them i have won about £75 but nothing huge. I'd considered withdrawing them and paying them towards the mortgage but i think i may leave them where they are. I know it's not the best investment but i know i'd be tempted to spend the cash if i withdraw them now so they can stay put and i'll cash them in when the CC needs to be paid off.
I think for now i'm going to try and save any extra cash that i can to build up a bit of a personal savings pot for while my wage reduces and also have the money there to pay the CC. I can always pay this towards the mortgage at a later date if i find that i have enough.
We're currently making a regular overpayment of £430 each month, i wish i could round this up to £500 but DH would just think i'm becoming even more odd! I'm already getting fidgety as i know the mortgage statement is due in the next few weeks. I'd also like to know the balance of my student loan just to see how much this has come down but from experience i don't normally get an accurate statement from them until about October!
anyway...after a couple of days planning to do this, that and the other i've ended up deciding to continue exactly as i am! roll on the gym membership ending at beginning of June when i'll have an extra £25 back in my pot instead of the gym that i thought i would use but quickly found out was impossible to fit around a family and a full time job!
off to play with some more mortgage calculators and maybe a little look at rightmove:oDebts all paid!!!:j0 -
so
for this year at least my aims are
- to maintain the overpayments at a minimum of £430 each month
- to pay £500 credit card before 0% ends in December 2011
- to lose the baby weight that no doubt is going to pile on over the last 12 weeks!
- to learn to cook proper meals rather than relying on DH to sort this for me as i'm fairly rubbish in the kitchen!
I would really love to clear the additional secured loan this year (by end August statement) but that will be a tall order so we will just have to see how we go. We're pretty much stuck with this mortgage until either we win a fortune or house prices rise massively again so we're in for the long haul it seems. My goals will probably change over the year with new ones coming and others dropping at the wayside but i'll do what i can
As at end August 2010 mortgage stood at
mortgage = £93,911
secured loan = £11, 831
unsecured loan = £11,202
all at 4.78% standard variable rateDebts all paid!!!:j0 -
well today wasn't so bad...nursery was closed so saved £8 there, got to hear little babies heartbeat and also found out i'm eligible for the maternity grant so should have £190 on it's way to my account and managed to make it into work when i thought i'd have to take the afternoon off so have saved a half days holiday to add onto the beginning of my maternity leave.
Also found out that DH may be in line for a new job which might mean an increase in income of between £5000 and £10,000 a year:D just think of the overpayments i can make if i get my fingers on that cash!!!Debts all paid!!!:j0 -

haha how did you guess, although when it snows he changes his mind to some 4x4 which he hasn't chosen yet. Neither is his current car paid for. So i figure that while he can't make up his mind and his current car isn't paid for that we're better off paying the mortgage. We're never going to buy another car while we're still in negative equity and even he agrees on that one.
I think he enjoys it really, at least he knows his money is going to a good cause in keeping me happy! I must start to dig a little to find out when and what his next bonus will be;)Debts all paid!!!:j0
