Help! Can I get deposit back from college

My son applied for a diploma course in computer gaming software at SAE london. He sent off the form with a deposit of £1000. He read the form that he could reclaim the depost within 14 days of the course starting if he pulled out. Unfortunately the form actually said he had to reclaim the deposit within 14 days of the enrolment letter. He had to apply, get accepted before he could apply for finance and he has now decided not to do the course in September as he has not been able to obtain funding. The college have said they will not return the deposit. Is there anything he can do. it does seem like an awful lot of money to lose for very little on their part and 14 days from enrolment does seem to be pretty harsh. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Unfortunately it seems they are perfectly within their rights if it says within 14 days of enrolement and he asked for it back after that time period.

Sorry, pressed the Thanks button by mistake.
I can't see much chance of getting a refund either; 14 days after enrolment is a very different thing from 14 days after the course starting. If he'd started the course he's owe them far more than just the deposit!0
