Miele Fridge Freezer

We have a 6 year old Miele Fridge Freezer. The drainage channel in the fridge no longer drains water, water just sits there and needs to be mopped up every day. We went away for a week and there was very little water there when we got back. It has been like this for about two years. Can anyone tell me if this would increase electricity costs and where we could buy a gadget to monitor costs. ?
I have used Martin's energy calculator for a year and gas (heating, hot water and cooking) and electricity are almost identical for the year at £550 each for a 4 bedroom house + office for four adults.

Is the drainage tube just blocked with ice?

Hello jimexbox, thanks for your quick reply. I will have to check. Only a small part of the tube is visible at the back of the fridge.

Sometimes the little outlet hole gets blocked with gunky stuff. I found a few drops of bleach in the drainage channel sorted out the gunk and freed it all up. Maybe try to clear the outlet hole with a pin (or similar) if this doesn't work, in case some particles are blocking it that bleach won't dissolve.

It is more likely that the drainage tube is blocked with food debris - easily cleared. Find the hole at the back of fridge and poke something blunt through the hole.

Unlikely to have an effect on running costs.

You can buy a power measuring meter from Maplins for arount £10, or on occasion Lidl and Aldi have them for around £6.
  • I regularly clean mine with a cotton bud also make sure there are no packages diverting the water away from the drain at the back

Thank you kittie and Violetta for your helpful replies. Thank you Cardew for the info on the power measuring monitor and running costs and your helpful reply.

I put some bleach into the channel as advised and then pushed a soft telephone cable down the hole and it worked, the water disappeared.
I have no idea why I couldn't think of this myself.!!
I have been looking online at new fridge freezers so you have saved us a lot of money. Thank you all again.
