cold sore cream - Any alternatives to Zovirax?
Comments
-
As a cold sore sufferer since about aged 8 (that's er...a very long time!)
NOTHING gets rid of cold sores. They will just run their course, which is usually 5-7 days. All the zovirax creams and what not stop it tingling.
And no, do not put nail polish remover on your face. It's going to sting like a b@tch!
But I'd still recommend buying the cheapo acilovir alternatives, I've even picked them up for around a pound sometimes.0 -
I've been getting a cold sore in exactly the same place for about a year now and has left a slight scar. It comes and goes within about a week alright. It's annoying but not too sore and would like to treat it as it keeps coming back.
And this is one of the reasons why I’m getting a bit concerned. A bit paranoid I know.

Funny thing is the pictures shows exactly where my cold sore appears0 -
Thanks hells! I can't press your thank you button as your new-ish.
Edit: Strange, it's just appeared.0 -
I have suffered with cold sores for years, and spent a small fortune on over the counter remedies. I even got aciclover tablets from the dr as the coldsores got so bad. I am currently using lysine ointment from the health food shop, not cheap at £5.75 a tube, but so far its working for me, coldsore gone after 2days, when it normally takes 7 days.0

Thanks everyone,
I might try either Galpharm or one from either Tesco or ASDA to start with, and if these don't work I'll try something else that might be more effective.
I just had a thought too as one of my sister suffers from cold sores too, I'll ask her what she uses as well and see what she says.
Fingers crossed I won't be getting cold sores as often with using one of these remedies.0 -
Just had a look to see if there were any other places that might sell Lysine Coldsore Ointment and found that Holland & Barret sells this for £2.99.

I remembered seeing a previous post about this & when I've searched the forum for Aciclovir, there have been several posts between Jan & July 09 about people finding it at Home Bargains - the most recent post stating it was just 49p! Hopefully, they may still stock it, if its been available for such a long period of time.
HTH!
S xxEverything I wanna do is either illegal, immoral or fattening! lol :rotfl:0 -
Thanks suzi but there's no Home Bargains near where I live unfortunately. I don't mind paying a couple of quid if the stuff does the job otherwise I'll just have to pay the full wack for whatever else works.
Thanks again0 -
my pharmacist gave me one called Fenistil and I thought it was amazing,....far better than zovirax which is expensive and didn't really work for me at all0

How much does it cost? I just checked Google products and says £4.49. Is that how much you paid?0
