If you are giving a full refund you should be refunding the initial postage costs (which it sounds like you have), you dont have to refund the return costs (but if the problem was the sellers most do.). If they went through paypal they would be told to return the item for a full refund (including initial postage costs) so you have correctly refunded

So he cant force you to refund the return costs. If you are getting harressed report him to ebay then ignore the rest of the emails. Make sure he's on your blocked bidders list

If you wanted to refund him the postage you could just send a payment (as if it was a non-ebay transaction). the money would then be deducted from your attached bank account as if you were a buyer.

If it was your fault that the item needed to be sent back, then it would probably be worth refunding the return postage, if only to avoid negative feedback. However, there is never an excuse for threatening behaviour or intimidation, so I suggest that you contact ebay anyway for advice.
  • Ive refund full amount (cost of item plus postage). im contacting ebay in a little while to see where i stand on this. Thank you for your advice.

I'm a bit confused- have they already sent the item back? If not then have you asked for it back? If the answer to both is no then why are they whinging?
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p
  • They have not send item back yet, i said to buyer in the begining i would refund cost of item and postage they paid = full amount they paid, and they send item back, but now ive refunded item they want return costs too, ive spoke to ebay and they advised i dont cover return costs as its up to buyer as my item decription made buyer aware of condition of item.
so i suppose i will have to wait and see what happens now
  • If the buyer is right and the item is in poor condition i would refund full amount including return postage.

If item was as described (maybe they didn't read the listing before bidding) then thats there fault and i would only refund postage 1 way.

If the item was as described i would write to them explaining e-bay rules (refund on item and 1 way postage costs on return of item), really they have no choice but to send it back and except your refund, paypal wont refund them unless item has been returned and then they would only refund postage 1 way and item cost. Stick to your guns, you may get a bad feedback but thats not the end of the world, you can always reply to feedback with 'gave buyer full refund but still not happy'.

    Good luck.

I agree with Saffon. If it was as described then you have offered more than enough. If they get really shirty then withdraw your offer and fight it with PayPal when they start a not a described claim. If nothing else it will make them sweat a bit.

:TI think you did extremely well.
My daughter made a purchase on e-bay, an inflatable pool. It was leaking and the postage costs were almost as high as the initial cost, but she returned it at her expense and awaited refund. It took so long it went into dispute and she went on holiday. When she returned and found still no refund, she complained and was told after a certain time no claim was allowed. Ultimately she paid for a pool approx £80 plus p&p, returned the pool at high cost and she has absolutely nothing to show for it. Buyer and seller be warned.
