I used to sometimes get this it is like extra crust caused by mix sticking to the side of the pan. It doesn't look collapsed to me so the bread should be fine. Collapsed bread is sort of U shaped. When this happens to me I just pick off cut of the extra crust and it is fine inside. Possible wiping the pan with a little oil before adding your ingredients might help or an extra spoon of flour. It is trial and error. Upsy x

So is this a normal size for a 700g loaf?! I have no idea how big it should be lol

Sorry I don't know either , if it tastes ok then you'll know. FYI My bread is never like shop bought bakery bread it is always heavier ( or more dense)as it doesn't have all the rubbish in it.The only machine that makes really light/fluffy bread it the panasonic ( so I've been told)which I will get when my one packs in. (2nd hand morphy richards) I make my bread in the evening and then leave it over night and cut it in the morning it does take a while to adjust to smaller slices which are more filling than standard slices.
  • We came across a problem when we came to use the loaf yesterday...it had the texture of crumpets :s
