Thats the speed of your wireless connection 54mbps, your bb will still be the same speed... 2meg :D

Exactly the same with my new laptop(my desktop is connected to the wireless router by ethernet).

I assumed that the 54mb showing on the laptop was the speed the wireless link was capable of handling. Obviously if your BB service is only 2mb your wireless laptop cannot exceed that speed.

    Repeat that was my assumption.

PC <--> Wireless Router <--> Internet
    ---<54>
    < 2 >
Max Speed between PC and Router is 54, router and internet is 2, therefore PC to internet is still 2 (for the time being)

If you use a wired connection the PC - router - PC speed is 100, but the PC - internet speed is still 2.

    Confused?

The gist is, your PC can talk to your laptop wirelessly at 54 (max - it varies depending on signal strength, interference etc.), or wired at 100, but both of them can only talk to the internet at 2 (until Wanadoo ups your speed).

Think of a river running past your house as your Internet service provider. All the water in it is data flying along... loads of it.

If you build a pipe off of that into your house you can have 2GIG (2000mb) of water coming through it per second. This represents your wired connection to your PC.

However to get data to your laptop you can only fill a cup from the pipe into your house and walk it back and forwards. Therefore a smaller amount of data can reach your laptop wirelessly in the same time.. 54mb per second.

The reason you can only use a cup for your laptop is due to the limitation of the hardware that allows data transfer wirelessly.

The cup is actually bigger than the pipe. If I had a 2Gig pipe, my cup would overfloweth.. It's 2Meg..

Your speed relates to the speed that you can transfer files/information between two, or more sources. So as far as the internet goes you get the information transferred to you at a 2mb. Now if you say downloaded a programme from the internet on to one machine on your wireless network and then wanted to transfer that file to another machine on the same wireless network it would transfer at the rate of your network speed of between 38 and 54.
