Royal Mail - Damaged item advice
Wadders
Hi all just after a bit of advice here if possible.
My daughter receives a magazine subscription through the post and sometimes it comes with a magnet board that is too big for a normal sized letter box. The last one we got which came about one month ago was posted through our letterbox by a postman who decided to bend and fold it to fit it through, in doing this he not only damaged the magnet board but also the magazine enclosed as well.
We went to our local sorting office who informed us we could claim back the costs through Royal mail so we filled in the relevant form and posted it along with the damaged magazine and magnet board back to the relevant place.
Today we received a letter back apologizing for our bad experience and it explained that Royal Mail do everything they can to help their customers. The problem with this is instead of sending us the cost of the damaged item they have sent us a book of 6 first class stamps and explained this is all the compensation they are willing to send (the cost of the book of stamps is not even equal to the cost of the magazine which was damaged)
What would be the next best step to take. I was going to call them but I fear I will be fobbed off. Without the damaged magazine we cannot even go back to the magazine publisher to claim the money back from them and I doubt we will get the damaged magazine back from Royal Mail now. This is a very frustrating situation indeed
Thanks in advance for any help.

you should contact the publisher
they should send a replacemnt
its down to them to claim from RM0 -
I don't have the original magazine as it was sent to Royal Mail as evidence so I fear they would not send us another one as we have no proof it was damaged

You wont know whether the publisher will send a replacement or not until you ask them will you?I don't have the original magazine as it was sent to Royal Mail as evidence so I fear they would not send us another one as we have no proof it was damaged
The publisher, or distributor, i.e. the sender, is the customer of Royal Mail in this instance, and you have no contract with RM so should consider yourself fortunate to get any compensation.
Sorry, that sounds harsh, but it is the reality.
