who is responsible

Posted in tv section also.

I have a house that I rent out.
My tenant has just bought himself a digi box and he cant get a picture.
I have phoned freeview to discuss and they said that it would need to have an ariel. Either a better indoor one or one on the roof. As a sky customer both at home and at the property concerned (when I lived there in the past). I don't understand freeview BUT my question is who is responsible for the tenant getting tv under this new freeview/freesat or sky system?
Thanx

I would say they are, but will you be happy when they rip it down again when moving?

It's not essential to your health so it's doubtful there will be a legal requirement on the landlord. However it is my understanding that any service that is specified in an advert or contract would have to be provided by the landlord. So if you offered a washing machine and it broke you would need to supply a replacement, if no washing machine ever promised the landlord won't need to supply one.

  • My mum is in a council house, and when she moved in there was no ariel and she couldnt get a picture on normal tv channels, she rang the council and they said it is the tenants responsibility as tv's are a luxury not a necessity
