Who owns airfields...?

I'm interested in borrowing/renting an airfield for a few weekends to a run a skid pan...

I know there's loads of airfields around the UK that were made for the 2nd world war but are now redundant...so who actually owns these airfields and how do you get in contact with them? Is it the local council or are they privately owned?

Thanks

www.ukga.com is a private aviation website with access for all - you will find lists of all the small airfields on there - many are privately owned and are strapped for cash

which part of the country are you interested in ?

anywhere in the midlands...or anywhere within 1-2 hours drive of birmingham

are there such things as abandonned airfields? i.e. belonging to the council or something?

edit: after looking through ukga...there appears to be loads of airfields which don't exist...they just point to farms on google maps...also is there a way of finding contact information for owners?

Possibly the references point to farms and fields because some of the airfeilds were just that - fields, without necessarily having tarmac or concrete runways.

Since you want to do this in the midlands, and you need a sizeable area of tarmac, why not speak to the folks at the Birmingham NEC and see if you can hire one of their remote, outlying car parks from them for a while? Even when they have events on, they never seem to be full.

there is an airfield at Wellesbourne near Warwick

dr_shabazz - since you spent all of 3 minutes researching the huge website i referred you t, may i suggest you have another look before deciding you cant be bothered to dc your own research. You could maybe put a post up on www.ukga.com and ask there - it is an aviation website - this is not
