When i need to enter my user names into various sites i only used to need to type the first few letters for the rest of the word to come up now this doesn't happen and i have to type the whole word -grateful for any help

Sounds like you've cleared your cache (cookies, temp internet files, passwords etc.) After you've entered the details once does it then pop-up in the box the next time? If not then are you using IE of Firefox?
If it's IE 8 then go to Tools -> Content -> Settings (next to Autocomplete) -> tick whatever you want remembering.0
