Alliance and Leicester incorrectly ordering transactions - overdrawn?!

Hi all,

Just logged onto my A&L account there to check my balance and saw that they have changed the order of transactions that means I had been overdrawn, thus incurring charges!

Here is the order things happened in reality...

1. I had my pay go in 28th August. This was confirmed by going to the cash machine, checking balance, seeing it was updated and withdrawing £20.

2. I logged on later that evening to my A&L account and transferred my half of the mortgage to my girlfriend's account (it comes out of her account).

This all went through fine.

Today when I logged on, it had changed.

The new order -

1. The £20 is down as coming out before my pay was in, taking me £5 overdrawn. ATMs won't even let you do that if the available cash isn't there!!

2. Then my transfer to my girlfriend's account is next, taking me hundreds overdrawn.

3. Then on top is my pay.

My pay was 100% there when I logged in to transfer money. I always check these things. Both my available balance and running balance were updated with the transaction listed in my statement.

I'm just checking here before I call them to see is there anything in particular I need to watch out for? I think I allowed them to dupe me in the past simply because I wasn't forceful enough with my point. I know I'm in the right here, so if they try and fob me off saying that I didn't check, how can I get them to see I'm right?

Thanks in advance

Do you get receipts from the cash machine ?

Are the bank saying you have incurred charges due to these transactions ?

  • Just call the bank, they are unlikely to charge you based on the above otherwise they would have bounced the transaction.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
