Irish Postal Order

I sold something on ebay to a person in Northern Ireland who wanted to pay by Postal Order. The order arrived, I noticed that it is not a UK Post office Postal Order but an Irish one that says General Post Office, Dublin, Ireland and Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank on it. Does this mean that it is some sort of bank draft? Would it cost me money to pay it into my bank account?

It seems that Irish postal orders were abolished sometime ago.
