New uPVC double glazing recommendations

Hi,
Can someone recommend a good, reputable and resonable supplier and installer for uPVC casement double glazing and uPVC doors in the East Yorkshire region?
I have asked loads of people at work and such and no one seems willing to recommend anyone (or have lots of people not to use, EYG, Coldseal etc).
Who are worth entertaining for a quote?
Cheers,
Mike

Hello Stormy
I can recommend Colfax Window Systems who are based in Leads Road, Hull. Their telephone number is 01482 879077.
I am not connected to the company, just a satisfied customer.;)
Kind Regards

Thanks very much, I want to get a good list of decent reputable companies before I get some quotes.
Cheers,

Where do you live?I used to work for a very good firm in Grimsby and they do work all around that region.0

I'm looking for a firm serving Manchester, if anyone has any recommendations.
Double glazing has got to have the worst reputations of any industry, and if I'm going to actually ask for a quote (as opposed to have to the usual of telling some idiot salesman where to go...) I want to be sure they won't arrive on horse-back.0 -

Brough, East Yorkshire. Not too far from the bridge. I am happy for any recommendations, trying to get people to recommend is hard. I have about 20 "do not use these people" so far.

Very often when you're looking for recommendations, your best bet is to shortlist a few and ten ask people's opinions on them.
As well as the nature of the company you also need to consider the quality of the frames and glazed units.
The firm should be FENSA registered. They don't have to be but I would need a good case to use one that is not. If your firm is not FENSA registered then you'll need to apply for a building notice to do the work, which may cost around £200.
The glazed panels are dictated by building regs. Hence one glazed panel will probably not differ too much to the next. However the frames do vary.
Go for INTERNALLY beaded frames. I don't know if many people still do externally beaded. The Internally beaded units are more secure. There is no way an intruder can remove the glass from the outside then.
Ask to see a cross section of the frames they use. If they don't have one to show you they may be able to show you one being made, or explain how they are made. They should be UPVC reinforced with galvanised steel. The weight and feel to the frame is a good (but not the only) indicator of it's quality.
I would look to the independent firms rather than the nationwide ones. We have had a couple of quotes from these guys and I found that they try to sell you something they can make a good profit out of rather than something you want. They are also IMO snooty when you aren't ready to sign up there an then. I hate that.
The independents need to maintain a good reputation locally because that's where their customer base is. A FENSA organisation should carry a FENSA backed guarantee, which is there in case the company folds.
Also, look at the total cost of the package you want. It's so easy to be swayed by these deals of a free door etc. By all means look into them.

What you pay is what you get.
If you go for a cheap company, don't expect top quality windows.
If you go for a big brand you might get better quality....at a cost.
However, from experience, prices are always negotiable.
I got mine from a 'big name' , quote was £10000, paid £4600 after negotiations.
That gives you an idea of how much prices fluctuates.HKP
Who is this super hero? Sarge? ...No. Rosemary, the telephone operator? ...No. Penry, the mild-mannered janitor? ...Could be!0 -
I worked for Panoramic windows in Grimsby. They are a good honest firm and all their work is by word of mouth. As for the beading inside thing,i think it is ugly and just doesn't look right.Double sided security tape is just as effective.0

Not sure York is close enough but I will add them to my list, I can call and see.
