• Hi Everyone,

Im trying to find my ideal engagement ring (as I have to provide hints as to what I would like..just making sure he gets it right!) and I seem to have settled on one particular style-

10213092399.jpg

I initially preffered the Solitaire style, however after having been to a jeweller today and trying on a similar cluster ring to the above, I am now more keen on this style, as 0.50cts seemed bigger in this setting than solitaire :T, and I also prefer how the light is reflected through each stone.

The spec I would prefer-

Cut- Princess (4 small diamonds)

Carat- 0.50

Clarity- SI1

Colour- H

Setting- Platinum- 4 claw, not too sure about setting in the picture, I dont think enough light is getting to the diamonds, so would probably prefer something a little more open.

I dont think we can really afford high st prices, as they seem to have quite a high mark up (outrageous infact:eek:- I know as I have worked for a big jeweller!) I have looked around on the net, and found some great deals for the above spec in a solitaire setting just over £1000. We would be looking for a similar type of limit, if anyone can reccommend a jeweller I can buy this ring from, or if there are any jewellers who are able to offer me some quotes, I would be so grateful.

Will look forward to your feedback...;)

Thanks,
Bella
• get yourself to hatton garden in london or the jewellery quarter in birmingham. they could make it for you (and for much less than £1000 I'd have thought)

diamonds that small wouldn't normally be certified ;)

i doubt you could have a more open setting with 4 stones - they wouldn't stay in! (i have a ring that's a pearshaped diamond, and the claw on the point failed and the diamond fell out  luckily i found it, but you have to be very careful. i now have a wraparound claw on the point to stop it happening again)
• My engagement ring was from a family jewellers and they were very good. I preferred the type you like but I was informed by the jeweller that the diamonds aren't woth as much when like that as one single stone on it's own is. My ring cost £1100 and the diamond was certified. It was the best quality and clarity you could find and was set in Platinum. I absolutley loved it, although me and my fiance split up in the end. Good luck in finding the ring you want. Hope this helps xxx

• Tinkerbell84 and CharlotteandEden, thanks for your advice.

I have dropped hints to him to go down to Jewellery quarter in Brum, so hopefully we will!

CharlotteandEden, I think you may have just swayed me back over to a solitaire...

Im still unsure though... I do prefer the sparkle in the four diamonds...but I would like my ring to be certified, so maybe its best to go for a single diamond.

Thanks for your advice.

Bella...my ring is a solitaire square cut diamond and it sparkles like crazy! Its on an 18ct white gold band. I cant wait to wear it...keep getting it out of the box to try it on! The jewellry quarter in Brum is your best bet....ive heard of so many great deals to be had there on rings. xxxx
• ok, firstly, good diamonds should only need light coming from above to sparkle, as it is this light they reflect back as reflected and refracted (the coloured light) light. poorly cut diamonds need more open settings as they lose alot of the light that enters from above.

My main concern with the above ring is that there is no visable claw in the center to hold the diamonds that makes me wonder if the diamonds are glued in place - something that would be difficult to rectify if the diamonds become loose.

as something to consider -
how about this diamond: here - 0.53 G VS2
DI40X_AGS_9029401.jpg

It has been graded by AGS - (a large american grading lab that is very well respected) as their top grade for the Cut of the stone - so it will sparkle ALOT!
pair it with this ring in either White Gold or platinum (to get the most for your budget i would suggest the WG option)
now the total for that, imported into the UK paying the taxes would be about £1200 - that is before tax: £1000 then add VAT at 15% and import duty of 2.5% (only payable when importing a ring... importing diamonds loose is import duty free) plus postage of about £30

some other options this 0.5ct F SI1
DI40X_AGS_9029307.jpg
and this 0.54 G VVS2
DI40X_AGS-9711103.jpg
either paired with the ring linked to earlier would be about £1100 delivered.

the oh got my ring from samara james. The diamonds are certified and he found that they were half the price of a high street jeweller. You can really personalise your ring by choosing all the elements of the setting, band and diamond. I love mine :)

If you are going to Brum's JQ I recommend Samsons Gold and suggest you avoid Couture Diamonds as OH and I had a terrible experience there where they tried to rip us off and we had to really fight to get our money back.

Samson were great though.

There are a lot of dodgy places in Brum! I can recommend Newey's on the main street. I have all my jewellery from there.
• Mine is from SP Green on Warstone Mews - my whole family buys jewellery from them and only them ;)
