Ebay refunded buyer Confused?

My wife sold an item on ebay & which was paid for via paypal.

When I checked paypal I noticed that the payment had been refunded almost immediately. (the buyer says they never asked for a refund)

I emailed paypal to ask why this payment had been refunded and received a reply saying:

I have reviewed the transaction amounting to £14.99 GBP. Please
be advised that eBay reversed the payment back to your buyer. Please
contact eBay for further information.

I therefore contacted ebay via the contact ebay tab on the help page asking them why they had refunded the payment
and I received a reply saying:

We want to help you but we're not able to respond directly to emails
sent to this address.

One of the best ways to get answers to your questions is to go to the
PayPal website and visit the Help Center by clicking "Help" at the top
of the page.

So they are saying ask paypal & paypal are saying ask ebay.

Does anyone know away round this & how to find out why the payment was refunded.

Thanks Jim

    Ring PP :)
It will take you weeks to get a sensible reply by emailling either PP or ebay... a general rule of thumb is - if it's relating to a paypal payment, don't ask ebay :)
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I had a problem with paypal also recently, and was told the same thing, we cant deal with via email, please ring us.

So sent them a email back saying, I only have a PAYG phone, I'm out of credit, please ring me instead. - and within a few hours they had called and everything was sorted.

According to paypal it has nothing to do with them because Ebay did the refund to the buyer.
Ebay though say to get intouch with paypal.

Its still technically Paypal that refund (if its a paypal payment) as ebay can't get access to your paypal account so they have to pass it through Paypal who still make the decision on refunds. All ebay do now is enable communication and talk to paypal more.

so it is back in PP's ballpark then
seems a very convolted and flawed system if ebay are 'authorising' refunds
