Mortgage application

How come in 2006, it takes in excess of 5 weeks and counting to get any response regarding a first time buyers mortgage ?

is this the norm! or do i have a problem on my hands?
The reason i ask is that my application was very straightforward, no problems. The financial advisor said should go through quick:beer: 2006

i still dont believe we live in the developed world. And as for the company involved...when i do renew in 2 years time they are not dazzling me with their customer service.

So please reasure me...is this really the norm? to wait so long for a formal mortgage offer...the valuation has been done 4 weeks ago

    Hi Martim45.

Could you please tell us who the mortgage company is?

We had ours back the week after the survey was done.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

Sometimes the fault is with confirmation of earnings from employers & such things.

Some companies are slower than others it seems though. One begining with W & ending in itch seems slower than average from what I've heard.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Yep its Halifax

Thanks for that Link, the delay is a display of pure incompetance I feel. I'm looking into applying with a different company now, what do you think?

Will my exsisting outrageously overpriced valuation still stand?

I'm certain is not with my employers. I have a perfect credit history etc etc
What 'm amazed about this allmost complete lack of information, its a shame the service does not match the sum involved. When I do get the offer the Halifax are in for some very bad press re first time buyer applications

No, your existing valuation will not stand for a mortgage with another company. Each company wants to carry out it's own valuation I'm afraid.

I surprised at the Halifax as I've always had my mortgages with them & found them pretty efficient.

I wasn't implying your credit history isn't good, I just meant that references & reports are required for mortgage purposes from employer, credit reference agencies & such & that a slow response from them could cause a delay with you getting your official mortgage offer.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I have to say that i use the Halifax alot, because there products are very competative.

There have been issues with getting there surveyors to do valuations and homebuyer reports recently, but i feel that that tends to be a local issue and not indicative of my experience of Halifax!

If you used a broker- you should address this to him/her.

I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!

The Halifax has millions of customers I am sure I however only have one serious complaint against them as many here are aware. See my profile for web link details. This by no means is meant to scaremonger, but if customer services attitudes and standards are changing there, then who knows. My sister by way has a mortgage with the Halifax for 5 years and she said the service was brilliant then and she remains happy with them now.
