Up Front About Car Being An Import

Three years ago we knowingly purchased a new car as an EU import (Peugeot 206). The car is full UK spec and has been maintained/serviced by Peugeot since date of sale with any Warranty work completed by them as usual. We are the first registered keeper on the Registration document.

We are now thinking of selling and want to know if we are obliged "declair" the car as an import. Our concern is that we put folks off because they think it's in some way inferior to a UK model.

Any thoughts?

you dont have to tell any buyers, is there anything on the log book that states its an import?

You don't have to say anything unless you are asked, if asked and you lie then that would give the buyers a case against you.

It is stupid that this is even an issue just as the number of previous keepers is a stupid issue. But the fact is if it was in an accident and the insurance found out they would pay out less on that basis....rediculous and needs to be challenged in court by someone with more money and time than me.

however, the fact remains that eu imports are worth less, no sure why but it may be because you dont get a three year warranty and they are cheaper to buy in the first place. some garages still stick there noses up when it comes to servicing these cars.

As long as it does'nt say on the log book or the the service history then don't say anything, no-ones going to know.

No it's not a *fact* it's an excuse used by various facets of the UK motor industry to pay out less when it suits them.

The cars are sometimes *exactly* the same, sometimes there are minor differences on trim. The cars do have 3 years warranty guaranteed under EU legislation.

If two cars are **EXACTLY** the same I doubt it would be seen as legal for an insurance company to make a large distinction between them on value depending on which European country they were first sold through.
