Selling my Silver jewellery - advice please!

Hi,

I have a few items of silver jewellery I want to sell, including a sterling silver necklace I paid about £100 for and a necklace and bracelet I bought in America for around £80 total (these are just normal silver I think).

I've been looking online and can only seem to find places for gold which offer good rates... for silver it seems to be like 20p per gram which is nothing really..

Can anyone suggest where would be the best place to sell silver and how much I could realistically expect?

Realistically, silver jewellery prices are low and you won't get much for them second-hand. Sorry to bear bad news, but you will likely have to take a loss on them. Selling them for scrap, you will get pennies to the pound compared to the prices you paid.
  • Agreed. Hang on to them for now.
No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!:D

    Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target :(

Stering silver is not pure silver unfortunately so you won't even get the silver price per gramme for it.

  • Hi,

I saw your post and I had a similar experience with my gold/silver jewelery.
I tried online but as others commented above its not worth it.

What I did in the end was:
    • Garage sale in my house putting sign all over to promote it where I sold half.
    • Went to a pawn shop and for the once they offered a reasonable price I sold it.
    • In my local shopping center they had a shopping ferry where regular people can open a table and sell, it cost 100 pound for the weekend but over there I sold the rest of my items in higher price which was a real hit, I wish I did that for all of my items...
Ask the local shopping centers around your area if they have open spaces over the weekend and see if it worth the risk, if your items are very nice you can sell it very high regardless of the amount/quality of the silver. I did it with a friend who also wanted to sell her items and we split the cost and sold all of items in one weekend.

    Good luck,

    Paul
