Plug it in with the charger, Your laptop will run without the battery in if you plug it in the wall

we have thought about this, but it is a medion laptop around 18 months old, we dont know anyone with one, i think the fault with my laptop is a common one as there have been a few on ebay with the same fault, not charging, not sure if it will work with no battery as the problem is on the motherboard but will give it a go. shame really as the laptop is mint and was running great until this horrible smell of tcp wafted out of it.

    thanks

Probably the best bet is take the hard disk out, see whether it's IDE or SATA and then buy an adaptor that will allow you to plug it in as a secondary drive on a desktop PC. Last one I bought on Ebay cost less than £4, shipped from HK.

You can then transfer your files off and run DBAN on it so that your personal data is safe when you sell it.

I did the same as fwor but for my g/fs parents laptop the adapter was not a lot at all and will come in for when someone else breaks their laptop
