You will lose everything you currently get for her, that is the £21 a month Tax credits and the appropriate amount of Child Benefit. You need to let them both know or you will be overpaid.

  • Hi Gazzer, welcome to the Board, I'm afraid I don't know a lot about child allowances but I would imagine if she has an apprenticeship then you will get nothing at all for your daughter.

    Gazzer.
It seems your daugher has her priorities right, making sure she is paying her way, and not living off you and her mum.
I hope the apprenticeship works out ok for her and leads to a decent job.
Re the child benefit if you click on this link and scroll to the bottom it tells you how to inform them of changes.
Re tax credits I think you'd just need to call the helpling on the number at the top of your last award letter.

You will not lose a penny in tax credits, you will still get your £42 every 4wks. This is due to the fact that you are on a family only element and not a child element.

You will lose £13.20pw CB that is all. The 1st child will still get the £20pw

So your daughter should be giving you £52.40 every 4wks if you want her to replace what you are going to lose.

    Information is 110% accurate :)

Also, you are confusing 4wks and months, there are more than 48wks in the year ;)

    Calculations should be £95 x 52 = £4940/12 = £411pm, and £65pm from her saturday job so £476pm altogether

    You get £13.20pw x 52 /12 = £57.20pm.

I suspect she'll soon be wanting to start her driving lessons and the likes so her wage wont go as far as you may think. Double lesson once a week will cost £160-£180 or so every month :) Then there's the nights outs, drink, hair, make up, mobile phone, cost of getting to and from work, dinners.

Im sure you'll still be putting your hand in your pocket to help her out ;)
  • Many thanks for all your replys
As my daughter is the first child do i lose the 20.00 ?
Also what is family only element and not a child element.

    regards
  • I'm in a similar situation, except that my daughter hasn't found any work yet despite her efforts.

I just wanted to echo Gazzer's question - won't it be £20 a week child benefit that is lost, as she is the oldest child? I thought that I would then continue to get CB paid at the lower rate for my other two children.
  • Can I come and live at your house for £20 a week all in??lol. I paid my mum £20 a week 15years ago.

She sounds sensible to have saved £400 in a short time, well done her, better than I did at her age..lol.

I think that the next one down starts to be counted as the oldest child.
