I hate my camera so much that I want to kill it.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, but seriously, Im at my wits end with this thing!

Ive got a Kodak C913 camera, and for some reason, it wont let me put my photos onto the computer. I plug it in, and then it 'checks for duplicates' and only puts about 3 of the photos Ive taken onto the pc. Its literally driving me round the bend. Ive been to the 'support' website, but thats no help, and Im reluctant to ring the expensive helpline. So Im wondering if a)anyone else has this problem? And b) what the hell can I do about it??

Cheers Muchly!

Sounds more like the software than the camera. Have you tried going into the camera's memory card and copy & pasting the pictures manually? (i.e. by going into My Computer and then into the camera which should show up as another drive)

Do you know what it means when it says it is 'looking for duplicates'? Does it look at the file names? I've never had one of these cameras, but it was me I'd try moving your existing photos out of the folder where it is trying to save the new ones, or renaming them, in case it is something as simple as a confusion over the file names because the names of the photos on your camera are the same as the names of photos in the file on your pc.

When I connect my camera, the software goes through all of the pictures on it, checking that it hasnt already put them on to the computer (I think!)... BUT.... It then misses out about 50 percent of the pictures on there.... Im SOOOO not very techie, but I think thats what it means?

May be an option for file-naming in your camera setup. Most I've used allow you to reset names or continue the naming sequence afer pictures have been deleted.

Example - with Fuji cameras, photos are named DSCFnnnn.JPG where nnnn starts at 0001 and goes up for each shot. If set to Reset, this number resets to 0001 whenever the card is emptied (all frames deleted). If set to Continuous, it remembers the highest number used and continues from this (so you can take 9999 pictures before you start getting duplicate names).

[edit] try changing the target folder name for now, or as tyllwyd said, try moving existing pics out to another folder before loading.

The photo file names probably look something like xxx00123
where the number increases each time even after you've deleted all the previous pictures.
There's a setting on some cameras to always start numbering from the beginning after you've deleted all the previous pictures - this will result in the new photos having the same file names as the previous batch.

If this is your problem fix this by changing the camera setting or renaming the folder on the PC

PS - similar answer to ManAtHome above

This shouldn't be too time consuming. You should be able to select all files at once and copy them to a folder on the PC. Then look through them, delete the ones you want and rename the ones you want to keep. It will work faster doing this on the PC rather than by looking at the files on the card in the camera, which can be a much slower process.

I think you mean delete the ones you don't want and rename the ones you want to keep. Seems the software already does what you said lol

Try Google Picasa 3, it's notice duplicate photos (marked with x) but it's easy to cancel it an import the photos
