Computer gear to donate, but to who?
I have loads of computer stuff (monitors, modems, motherboards etc) which have been given to me over the last couple of years by people ungrading their computers and thinking I might do something with it. Im now moving house and need to get rid.
Anyone recommend any good non profit making charitable organisations that will recylce it?
cheers

If you don't like this, just Google 'computers for charities' - there are others
Computers do have to be reasonably recent modern spec though.....:oEx board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
You could also try any of your local schools - I work in a secondary and we take donations from the public, mostly because the majority of our machines are well over the 3 year-age-limit BECTA put on school's equipment.
In short, if it's under 3yrs (or generally, a PIII 600 or higher) most schools will make use of it.
If not, the Google route is a good one, I use a specialist schools IT collection company which recycles and sends equipment overseas - but there are plenty out there for single home users to send their stuff off.0 -
The Workability Project by the Leonard Cheshire Charity uses unwanted PC's to teach disabled people new skills to gain more independence and be more financially independent. They also give PC's to disabled people (pay only for delivery). If you're housebound, this can be a lifeline.
Details here http://http://www.egrindstone.co.uk/workability_interview.htm

Glad I could help, and glad they're being passed on for good use.
Although it's called 'Leonard Cheshire' it does work across the UK and the world.
Leonard Cheshire was a war hero who started the charity after taking in a terminally ill friend who had nowhere else to go. I remember there being a 'Leonard Cheshire Home' for severely disabled men and women near where I lived when I was little in Liverpool, so i've seen their good work first-hand!
(Yes, I am missing the 'thanks' button too!)A Fendi Baguette is not a sandwich.....

Try your local scout group,i'm sure they would welcome any computer equipment, scouting is now very much in the 21st century and 100yrs old in 2007.

Howdy Welnik & Fruitcake,
I have been a silent follower of MSE for some time nowand have reeped the benefits from the weekly email. I noticed you were trying to give away pc equipment.
I am just started getting involved with a charity in Bulgaria for a childrens orphanage in Elhovo, Bulgaria. ( I am sure one or two of you nice people would have seen the disturbing recent GMTV article on this topic, although this is not the one featured)
The orphanage badly needs equipment and donations of every kind to inprove the orphanage and to help the children.
If you would consider donating anything to this good cause, not just pc equipment, i am sure they would be very grateful. I could give details of the registered charity if required.
Many thanks for your time in reading this post.
