I have been told by scottish power that my contract ends on 31sept 2009 .Am i entitled to start the switch to another provider before then ? ? It supposed to take from 6 weeks upwards for the chage to take effect. I recieved the welcome to scottish powr last year on 04/08/2008 yet recieved the next letter on the 25/09/2008 saying "you are now been supplied by scott powr" & the name of the package from the letters i recieved clearly state "Discounted energy online Oct 2009"
Should i wait until the 2 weeks before the end of the contract ? or when is the right time ?

I think most new suppliers give you a "cooling off" period of 14 days before they contact the old supplier - so on that basis you should be OK after 15th September to start a switch. Just check with your proposed new supplier before you click "switch" !

My SP fixed price deal ended on 31st august, I applied to switch on 17th Aug to EDF I received a letter from EDF around the 24th Aug telling me they would be switching my Elect on 7th Sept and my Gas a few days later. I have 'nt had any feedback from SP about penalty charges so I must be ok and timed it right, so if you switch around the same time you should be fine. They did try saying that if they received an application from anothere compaany before the 31st they would penalise you but i think that was has been dropped due to being against the law, so as long as you don't switch companies before your contract ends with SP you should be fine.
  • you will be ok switching the whole process takes at lest 28 days before the switch can take place. Start looking now...
