Newbie here, so i hope this is on the right board!
My husband booked a trip to new york for 4 days at christmas with first choice as a birthday present to myself in june! The cost was over £1200.
He paid a £200 deposit! In july we decided that this was a luxury we couldnt afford this year so decided to cancel the holiday!
we phoned the company and they were adament to try and keep us as customers and to try and get us a different holiday instead! After 2 weeks of nonsense i told them just to cancel the holiday as we had prior discussed! they said they needed it in writing, so i e-mailed them straight away to confirm the cancelation! This was on the 23 july!
so i get up this morning, checked my online banking to see a £100 has been taken out of our account by first choice!!!
How can they do this/ we cancelled the holiday knowing we d lose £200 deposit but can they take this £100 extra!
I cant phone as the phone lines here are down at the moment! What is my legal stance
Please help as we are short this month anyway and this has just made it worse! I feel sick!
THANX

You need to dig out your confirmation details & go over the small print RE cancellation. If its a legitimate charge included in the small print, its gone. However it may just be an screw up their end (or they're trying it on) & if its not in the agreement they've taken it illegally...
In which case you'll have to get on to them to return it as the bank probably wont if it has already left your account...0
