SLc determined to overpay tuition loan fee

Hi, I am starting a course which costs £683, and this is the amount i requested for my tuition fee loan. When i got financial notification I saw that SLC were trying to give me £2906 for fees. I phoned them and they said to send evidence when I sent in my signed acceptance of finance. I sent them a copy of fees list. However when I got payment schedule today, they are still trying to pay two installments of £1453. First one is not due to be paid for Feb.

What will happen if the college gets overpaid, I am assuming they will refund difference, but who will get refund, me or SLC.

What else can I do, I am worried college decide to keep money, but that is unlikely to happen isn't it. Luckily with 1st installment due in Feb, I have a bit of time to get it sorted.

Why not just let the SLC pay the fees and then you pay them back directly; that would seem much simpler.

One would assume that OP is never going to see the money. Its a transaction between SLC and the institution. OP shouldn't have to pay out of their own money for SLC companies mistake.

Also OP if paying back afterward would be accruing interest on something they didn't even need.

Wouldn't be paid. HEI's have to confirm the tuition fee amount is correct before a payment can be released.

This can happen - it's happened to some of our students despite the fail safes. SFE told the student to ask the college for a refund.

To the OP: the easiest thing to do is to complete a tuition fee request form (scroll down to the Loan Request Form section.

You can also do a change of circumstances form (further down the link) and do the section for change of course fees if you want.

It shouldn't happen though if the HEI do their jobs correctly. I've seen often they've confirmed attendance for students who never enrolled. How this gets through I'm not sure. But a lot of the blame here would be with the HEI.
