Do as many of these as you can in this order if you still have problems....

    o BACKUP!
    o Virus check
    o spyware check
o windows update - use custom as otherwise may not show driver updates
o uninstall software you don't need
o disk cleanup (under system tools depending on Operating System)
    o defrag
    o Full Scandisk
o Repair the installation of the game you use most - in control panel add/remove
o Start/Run MSCONFIG (XP) or WINCONFIG (ME/98) and check if you recognise everything that is running - you can turn off anything in here you are not sure of, but don't change it unless you are certain.
o monitor cpu temperature using utility previously mentioned
o check task manager for cpu and ram load while online and playing
    Upgrade RAM/CPU cooling as required.
o As a last resort, format and reinstall - people do this too quickly now and then just get the problem back. If you do wipe (or haven't got time for everything above), ensure the first things you do are installing ant-spyware, anti-virus and setting up a firewall.

Good luck all (I've done helpdesk/tech support for over 10 years, hence knowing all this gubbins in case you are wondering).

    ;)

Thanks for all the advice peeps. I have done several of tasks listed above (disc clean up, defrag - which i do often anyway) but it still seems to be freezing. Im going to go down the list programs i have and see if there is anything i dont really need. Im not sure if this is causing it but i recently installed wireless broadband from BT, Im not sure if my computer freezing was happening before this or not.

In response to one of the earlier posts...my system is...

    AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3400+
    2.40GHz, 512 MB of RAM

I actually purchased a new Graphics card in April from ebuyer but when i fitted it into my computer there was a loud screeching noise which lasted until i turned the system off again. The screen never came on. After contacting Ebuyer and sending it back (which took forever due to the easter break) i as told that there had been a fault and i got a full refund. Since that i decided to just stick with the Graphics Card i have.

Anywayi hope i can get this sorted soon, its making me:eek: lol. Thanks for all your suggestions, hopefully one of them will work!

You can run a free online pc "healthcheck" at PC Pitstop here.

You do need to register a username before you can run a test but it's been a very useful website for me in the past - it will tell you any faults it finds and give recommendations for fixing, improvements etc.

I still seem to be having problems :( I ran alot of those virus/spyware checks listed in a different thread but they all came back saying i was completely clean. Also taken alot of apps off the startup. I also downloaded that speedfan to tell me what my comps temp was...

    Temp 1 - 59 C
    Temp 2 - 37 C
    HDO - 39 C

I dont know but i think that sounds alright doesnt it...?

I have to admit i have only frozen once today...i suppose thats something...if only i knew what the problem was. Just bought myself a new Graphics Card, im hoping this might make some kinda difference...

Your temp 1 is your CPU, was you doing anything intensive when taking those temps? Or was your p.c on idle (no proggys running in background)?

If your p.c was on idle then 59degs is quite high......Do you know if your CPU is a Pentium or AMD?

Wooo.....I reckon your AMD hits 60-70degs then under load. This is hot!!

Looks like your CPU fan isn't doing its job well anymore.
