Lowell are renound for re-setting up direct debits.

If i was the op i get it in writing and send it to them my registered post then they cant deny not receiving it. As your right once this is been done they cant not really cant set it up again without authority.

you can cancel a DD at the bank OR lowell RECOMENDED both is in the banking code but the banks say you can cancel with lowell or you can cancel with us AND lowell!!!
    a recomendation is not compulsary

True, but it is also common sense to do so as well, Flam.
For example, sorry to pick up on this, if you cancel the DD with the gas company cos you have changed suppliers, how does the other supplier know you have changed unless you tell them?

  • Good News, I received a letter from Natwest, stating that they will ensure the direct debits are cancelled and that as a "goodwill gesture" they will refund all charges incurred since the date of the direct debit having been claimed. Thank you for your help. I have not had any luck with lowell telling me where I am in paying off the cc, they just refer me to my orig paperwork which was over 4 years ago, and they keep changing how much I pay them hence my confusion, but Im sure when they cant claim the dd they will send me a nasty letter saying how much I owe.

    Thanks again everyone

With Lowell, tell them that you will not pay them anymore if they will not prove that the debt is owed. If it was a credit card with NatWest then ask them for statements for the last 6 years because it should have how much was on he card and if there was any charges which could be reclaimed.
