Another possibility is that one of the diodes in the alternator has failed or gone leaky, I think that there are 9. When this happens, it will still charge but the ignition light in the dash may glow very dimly i.e. not necessarily visible in daylight.

Something else to keep you busy!

Do let us know the outcome.

Don't think the alternator is suspect. The car is lying idle(no need for charging) for a few days so alternator does not come into the equation.

If the alternator doesn't charge the battery up in the first place, it is potentially part of the problem.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

But if an alternator diode has failed or gone leaky it could provide a discharge path for the battery!

so it could also be a diode in the alternator, is there any way if checking this on the car, something else to add to the to-do list! oh joy!
