Hi everyone.
I'm off to butlins with the little one in 2 weeks time and just wondered if anyone knows of any good days outs that are fairly cheap/ money off in and around the area. DD is 18 months, so really looking for trips to cater for her. Thanks :j

As I understand it, you have already paid a fair amount to Butlins. Once there
swimming pool, funfairs etc are free. Loads of children her own age to play with and red coats to entertain her too. Why would you go somewhere else and pay again?0 -
It's good to escape!
Steam trains from Minehead towards Taunton

Dunster is a lovely place a few miles away (you can walk from Dunster Station or a couple of miles drive) and Porlock Weir a few miles the other way. Beyond that is Lynton and Lynmouth - a nice drive or bus ride. They use vintage and open top buses on some routes in the summer.
West Hill in Minehead is good especially towards dusk when you are more likely to see deer and drive to the end of the road for a great view and sunset. You can see West Hill rising beyond the end of the town as you look from Butlins.
Exmoor - West Hill is part of it but if you drive towards Tiverton from Dunster and turn right at Wheddon Cross you will find higher parts.0 -
We really enjoyed the steam trains. The safari was expensive and not worth the money. The deer were too far away. The jeep is only allowed on the trail and the countryside that we looked at, where the deer was, was fenced up.0

We went to Butlins Minehead last September. Butlins have an under 5 play area and a Creche. The first visit was free but if we wanted subsequent visits we had to pay for the service. We went to the Yacht Club on site whilst little one was at the Creche for a drink and read of the paper. No children are allowed in the Yacht club. They also had a soft play area in the same building as the Creche which the very young ones could play in supervised by there parents. They also had a childrens play area in the swimming pool complex. Don't know what it's like as it was closed during our stay. The beach in Minehead which is just across the road from Butlins is large and sandy. There is also a landtrain that runs along the bay at Minehead and stops best I remember near the Skyline. The stop was outside the Caravan sales area. There is also a charge for using the landtrain and pushchairs are folded up and put in the trailer at the back of the train. Enjoy your stay.0
