  • I have recently visited Sicily and we stayed in Sciacca which is aong the West coast in the Agrigento province. My family comes from nearby. There are even less touristy resorts on the beach where the locals retreat to during the summer to escape the heat of the nearby towns such as Minoa or Seccagrande which are near to the town of Ribera in the Agrigento province. On the other side of the island are the more touristy resorts such as Taormina. For the places that I mentioned above, you would want tofly into Trapani with Ryan Air or to Palermo.
  • great thanks for the info,
    any other suggestions anyone?

If you hire a car you can get pretty much anywhere. There's some amazing, amazing beaches to the North West of Palermo. San Vito lo Capo is a gorgeous beach, with a few touristy areas around. It's got very clear water. Scopella is a pebble beach with clear water and lots of caves and fish if you like snorkelling. The town you pass through to get to it is amazing, and famous for lot's of mafiosa dons being born there, it's so pretty too, with old cobbled streets and litle caffe shops. There's a few really, really good cafes around the beach area (try the arancine!) and the beaches are sandy and warm.

Also, there's a secret pathway that if you can find it takes you to natural springs in the mountain. There's a posh spa at the foot of the hill, you travel up it, walk through a little brook and you can bathe in the source! The water is boiling, and it's not uncommon to see the locals covering themselves in the clay, letting it get white and hard then rinsing it off. The tourists pay about £150 for a day in the spa... we go for free!

Agrigento which is south has amazing ruins which aren't very touristy. There's also Sciacca which is very pretty too. You can also take a day trip to Malta. Caltabelotta

    Hope that helps!
