Npower problem!!!!!!!!

I'm getting more and more frustrated with my energy suppliers - npower!
Approx one year ago an npower representative invited himself into our home during our evening meal made himself comfortable and foolishly to get rid of him we sugned up to switch our gas and elec to them. WHAT A MISTAKE!!
Three months later we got our quarterly bill - electricty was fine quite reasonable and paid that with no issues. The gas was three times as much as we'd usually expect to pay and when we quesried it realised it was a bill for a gas meter not even present at our property! Needless to say we didn't pay it. Called them up and told them and they said they would investigate. To cut a long story short about 20 calls and letters to the head of complaints later the gas problem has not been resolved. They send final reminder bills and and threats of court action etc on a regular basis depite us being told the account is on hold.
To add to this frustration we returned from our holidays last week to find letters regarding our electiricity supply - "sorry you're leaving" and they've refunded a whole years worth of money we paid for bills saying we need to pay it to our supplier that we are being transferred to - who is that exactly? We have never instructed them to alter or electricity in any way it was the gas that we have filed the complaint on! Worried we'll be left with no supply at all!
It's is extreme incompetence and to be honest we don't know what to do. There are only do many telephone calls and letter you can write!!
Any advice would be much appreciated.
