Need Some Urgent Advice Insurance Co. Took Deposit But Issued No Cover

Hi, sorry for long post but tried to put all info in.
I'm having trouble with insurance company Done Deal. On Sat 29th Aug I purchased a car insurance policy online(I paid the deposit). After the payment page it said there has been a technical fault please contact your broker directly. I received no confirmation email. I contacted them and they said the deposit had not been paid. So I rung up the bank who told me 70.95 has been requested by Done Deal. Then I ring Done Deal back who tell me they have no record of any payment but if I did make a payment then my policy will stand and contact them after the bank hol.
So I phoned them when I got in today and they tell me I am not insured as they have received no payment from me atall. Again I ring the bank who give me the payment authorisation code and it is now showing in my online statement. Ring back Done Deal and still nothing they can do, except get me to send in original bank statement showing payment to them. I offered to send a screenshot and a printed statement by email but was told it would take too long! I asked bank for a statement and it will take 5-7days to get to me.
The thing is I need insurance to get to work, or I can go by taxi as buses do not run the times I work. I hope I will eventually get my money back but can they just take money and not provide insurance like they agreed. Where do I stand legally. Will my insurance start from the day I paid my deposit or when they "find" the money. I cannot afford to take another policy out, or taxi to work every day.
Can anyone help me please

The money paid has been authorised by bank but due (it seems) to a fault by this broker, your money has not reached them and sounds like it has gone into a holding account. Annoying as it is, you'll hav to wait until it re-srfaces with done deal or back at your bank. In the meantime it may be worth starting the complaint process, possibly via FOS for all the inconveniance0

Here is my 2p worth
Under FSA rules you have 14 days to cancel the insurance with Done Deal - do so
Buy insurance with someone else to get your immediate cover
When you statement comes through claim the original £70.95 back. You will be out of pocket for a few weeks but at least you will not have to get taxis to work in the morning.0
