bellybabe wrote:If you have pretty bad eyesight, you can also get free tests - i was told a few years ago by Boots that I qualified for free tests as my eyesight is worse than -10. So if any of you are really short sighted, that also gets you free tests - but I've only ever been told that once, so it's worth asking, as they don't seem to like to tell you.
Perfectly true. My eyes are terrible and as a result I have what's called 'complex lenses'. That is, without glasses or contact lenses I'm as blind as a bat. So I automatically get free eye tests.
But I'd much prefer to have better eyesight and have to pay for the tests.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

I saved a voucher which entitles you to eye test for £10 at D&A which is valid until 30 July 2006. Their current offer is half price, £12.50.
If anyone wants me to email them this voucher thyen pm me, it will save you £2.50!!!
It would be great if someone has saved the FREE eye test voucher at D&A, if anyone has then polease pm me0 -

I had a free eye test at Boots. No probs, no pressure to buy minor adjustment specs and given a copy of the prescription. Several months later I had an eye test at a specialist ophthalmology clinic in France (much cheaper than here) where they found the pressure in my eyes is borderline too high and did lots of tests, I will have to repeat the tests every year etc. There's no history of glaucoma in my family, but the Boots optician missed what are (apparently) very obvious problems - which are symptomless until they get severe. I had it done because I get tired eyes (age). So the Boots one may be a free test but may not be the greatest.0

Interesting but true: if you work on a computer as a substantial part of your employment, or if tasks you do require you to use a high level of concentration when transferring/inputting data to a computer, your employer is obliged under health and safety legislation to pay for an annual eye test.
Check the HSE website for exact detail.
If your optician says that you need glasses SPECIFICALLY for computer work (i.e. not just for reading or driving or general wear), your employer is also obliged to part pay for the glasses. They can nominate specific opticians or even bring eye-testing on-site.
Hi,
Can't find the details on the HSE website

I believe that the :mad:bootshealthclub.com:mad: link given by Martin is to a :mad:phishing website:mad: there to collect personal data from unaware users. If so Boots need to be informed pronto!0

I've just tried to register and you have to be over 60!!0 -
Pretty poor advice, as have not mentioned the part about having to be over 60! to join,I don't think Boots will be accepting a free eye test voucher from 26 year old trying to pass himself off as 60!
The link doesn't work, and when you do go onto the boots website it states clearly in the terms and conditions to join must be 60 or over0
