Wickes taps any good?

My plumber said not to touch the b&q ones, but I noticed that the Wickes ones say they have a 10 year manufacturers guarantee and wondered if they were any better? Looking for bathroom ones.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Good evening: avoid purchasing brassware etc. from any of the 'sheds'...try sourcing Bristan, Grohe etc from a plumbers' merchant....spare parts and customer/product support will be available a few years down the line.

I bought mine from http://www.bes.co.uk/ who are quite reasonable.

I would advise that is you do get lever type taps (not the ones you have to turn and turn) then they may need a higher pressure maybe a pump to let the water freely pass otherwise it trickles out

Wickes taps are either made by Astracast or Deva, depending on the tap. Both are well established companies and you wont have any problem getting spares etc. in the future...

Thanks, and now for the next question...
I've been looking at baths and saw that some of them don't come with holes for the taps but need them cutting in. Is this usual, as it came as a real surprise to me?

Apparently it is usual these days because of the amount of tap choices available.....normal pillar taps / mono tap / wall taps etc. My bath has just been delivered today...minus holes. :) My plumber will be so pleased. :rotfl:

Good evening: (usually) not a problem if the bath is acrylic ...but steel or cast iron  Talk to your plumber for further advice on baths or try here.

Another tap question, if anyone's still around.

I've decided I want a deck mounted bath/shower mixer, as the bath is by a window so I can't use a wall mounted shower, but I want it to be able to wash hair /the dog etc with. Bathstore have a couple of more modern designs (there was one where the shower hose pulled up through the bath which I really liked the idea of.) Are bathstore taps ok or to be avoided?

I'm mid google at the moment, but the Bristan ones that keep coming up look like this, which are too old fashioned for me.

Doesn't have to be ultra modern, just something that looks a bit less like a telephone! Preferably with taps not levers. And has something not wall mounted to store the shower head on.
    Thanks

Edit: also needs to be a lot less than the £320 crosswater one I just looked at!

  • hi there,
All the taps we bought from the bathstore were made by Crosswater and they are great (metro series bath shower mixer, sink and cloakroom sink). Only gripe is that the shower head holder in the metro bath mixer comes loose and is mounted about 1 cm too low (the shower hose gets kinked on the bath). Otherwise really heavy, solid and nicely made - no sharp edges or missing bits of chrome!

  • What you don't realise is that the taps supplied to the sheds come from the same Chinese factories that supply the brands you mention. There is no difference in quality or performance, only price. The sheds will not offer the £3000 shower of the £1500 tap but do offer the other 95% of customer choice, often with a 10 year guarantee.

Thank you for resurecting a two year old post, especially seeing that what you have said is complete nonsense...
